3 week Turkey trip, advice please

After much reading and deliberating, we booked 3 weeks in Turkey, arriving September 5. The plan seems to keep changing based on domestic flights. If anyone has advice for us before we book them, please send it your way!

Arrive Istanbul 12:30 pm, 3 nights
fly Izmir 11:30 am 2 nights Selcuk area
fly Kayseri 1:20 flight, 4 nights then overnight bus to Antalya
2 nights Cirali
3 nights Kalkan
4 nights Oludeniz, including day trip to Rhodes
return to Istanbul from Dalaman airport 2 nights.

The stay in istanbul was originally 5 nights. Changed due to finding direct Kayseri flight.

Although we have read much about the ease of driving in Turkey, my hub would prefer not too. Can we get away with buses in Cappadocia? We hope to do several hikes as well as the typical sights. Seems easy to take buses along the coast.

Now an important question. We will be arriving in Kayseri/Goreme on my husband's birthday, in the late afternoon. Anyone know of a great fun surprise activity or restaurant, dancing, etc that night?

Although we have three full weeks, we still seem to be moving around quite a bit. No big deal really since we travel with carry on luggage only.

Thanks to all who posted reports. They have helped us greatly. Any thoughts or advice on changes??

I'm wondering if there is another town near Oludeniz people would recommend, keeping in mind we won't have a car. Or if you have lodging to recommend that is walkable to activities and restaurants, please send them.

Kas is the nearby village to Kalkan, and a very cute one. To my perspective it is much nicer than Kalkan. I would say: Try it. In case you have no reservation yet, the place to stay there will be Begonvil Hotel, with reasonable prices and a lovely family hosting.

Between Kas and Kalkan is the Kaputas Plaji (Beach) which will be a nice experience with its huge waves.. Just do not leave your wallet and cell phone on the ground unless you are 15-20 meters to the sea.. I unfortunately did.. cell phone did not work again after the salt water but I was glad I could dry the money..

DO NOT DRIVE IN ISTANBUL!! Extremely rude drivers and a mess of traffic will get you crazy and may make you sorry that you came.

Also do not forget that in this beautiful country, more people die on the intercity roads than terror due to very low human quality and lots of uneducated driver profiles are on the road each assuming themselves as Michael Schumachers on F1 tracks..

Try planes between cities (good prices in THY usually), take shuttles from airports to city centers and Buses or Dolmuses (public transport vehicles, generally minibuses or smaller sized buses) when possible in cities. If these are not available take taxis but be careful with fares as in everywhere else in the world.

In Oludeniz keep in mind to take a boat trip and try to schedule a day in Kelebekler Vadisi (Valley of Butterflies) to where you will go with boats again.

In restaurants, especially out of Istanbul and Izmir, and especially in Fethiye, ask the prices first and negotiate hard! usually there are two menus, one for tourists and one for locals which you will never see.

I have heard that in Kayseri you cannot find spirits in restaurants, but elsewhere it will not be a problem.

I have no idea about Rhodes.

Turkey is a very beautiful country, with perfect climate. Nature is much more friendly than rest of the world - a fauna with no predators in nature, in the sea or green like in Africa, Americas or Indian Ocean options.

If you can handle local people here, it will be a perfect 3 weeks.

Cheers.
