3 week trip with children
At the initial stage of planning a trip to see 'some' of Europe. We are planning on going for 3 weeks. We live in England so planning on taking our car. We have 2 children 7 and 3.5. Any advice would be highly welcomed on the initial plan and places of interest for children.
1- Drive to Bruges 2- Day at Bruges. Late drive to Brussels 3-Day at Brussels. Late drive to Strasbourg. 4- Strasbourg 5- Strasbourg 6- Drive to Geneva 7- Geneva 8- Drive to Turin 9- Turin 10- Turin 11- Turin 12- Drive to Nice 13- Nice 14- Nice 15- Nice 16- Drive to Beaune- stopover here 17- Drive to outskirts of Paris (near Disney) 18- Disney/Paris 19- Disney/ Paris 20- Disney/ Paris 21- Drive home Day 16-17 we are aware that this is a lot of driving. However, trying to balance out sightseeing with enough time at Disney (children massive fans, will be their 4th time there). TIA |
While staying in Geneva, the kids will love a visit to Chateau Chillon in Montreux. It's an awesome medieval castle on the shores of Lake Geneva. They have lots of kid-focused stuff on the weekend. And it's pretty damn cool for adults, too.
Montreux is about an hour away from Geneva by rail. |
I don't think driving Nice - Beaune is too much in a day. And Beaune-Disney will be 3 hours and a bit.
But we drive Nice-Antwerp in a day :-) We drove Turin-Nice last year via Cuneo, and stopped there for a coffee. We continued to Nice via the E74. It was a lovely road, but there's a tunnel at the border with a contraflow and traffic lights. They were working there. We were there in October and it was very quiet, but could be a problem in summer. If you drive to Beaune, avoid Saturdays in July! In the beginning of your trip, I would skip Brussel. Stay a night in Brugge (easily reached from Calais), and continue onto Strassbourg from there. Traffic in Brussel is a pita, and for only one night I would skip it. Too much changing of hotels.. Perhaps spend 2 nights in Brugge, to give you one full day, and take a leisurely drive to Strassbourg after that. |
Thank you, both. Have added the castle.
Also taken on board what has been mentioned about Belgium and agree the less hotels the better with children in tow. Thank you again. |
Are you taking the Channel Tunnel? It's not far to Brugge from Calais, I drive there regularly.
Make sure if you continue to Strassbourg that you avoid rush hour in Brussel. |
Yes taking the tunnel.
Thank you. Any recommendations on somewhere to stop for lunch/ afternoon between Bruges and Strasbourg? |
There's a castle just along the motorway in Belgium, towards Luxemburg, called Lavaux Sainte Anne. That might be nice and not too much of a detour.

Thank you
