Check out Hotel Residence San Sano***. 20 min drive north of Siena. Weloved it . 4 nts in 2000 and did day trips all over from there.

On another trip, really enjoyed the town of Montalcino. Stayed at Il Gigilo***, nice enough, some rooms with fabulous views.

It does sound hectic doesnt it, sigh. Story of our lives! My husband has pretty much said its my choice but I think it might be more worthwhile (and time appropriate) to drive around tuscany for those four days before going to the A/C.
