3 questions -luggage, hotel, how to ge back to Rome

Short trip to Italy - arrive Saturday am in Rome, spend Sat and Sun in Rome. Leave Rome Monday am, take to train to Naples, then on to Pompeii.

Question 1 - can we store our luggage at Pompeii while we tour? Couple of roller suitcases.

From Pompeii to Sorrento for the night.

Question 2 - need a Sorrento hotel - recommendations?

Tuesday - Sorrento to Positano - I get motion sick on buses so I'm thinking we will need to take the ferry.
Tuesday and Wednesday - relax in Positano or open to suggestions
Thursday - start making our way back to Rome for Friday 11am flight.

Question 3 - recommendation on how to make the most of Thursday and still make our Friday am flight - how should we go back - train to Naples, then Rome - ferry?

I assume we should stay somewhere in Rome Thursday night to be safe. Thanks for your advice - we are leaving in 3 weeks.

Hi darby,

>can we store our luggage at Pompeii while we tour?<

Yes. There is a place to leave your luggage at the entrance.

>..how should we go back - train to Naples, then Rome ..<

Yes. You don't have to leave before noon.

Why overnight in Sorrento and then pack up to go to Positano? They are only an hour apart.

Just thought it would be another city to see. Think it makes more sense to just stay in Positano the whole time?

To save time at Pompeii: You enter the site into a small outdoor complex.
One person goes to the left to the ticket window queue to get the tickets. And the other person with the luggage goes over to the ticket turnstiles which you can see 45deg to the right ~ 30m away.
To the right of the ticket turnstiles is the Left luggage room which I believe is still free.
In the center of this complex is a small circular building where you can rent the (IMO) very good audioguide tour. Have picture ID or CC for security.
Also there is a bookstore to the right of the ticket windows where you can purchase guidebooks, maps and souvenirs.
And before you get to the entrance purchase something to take with you to drink, there are vendors before the entrance. Regards, Walter

Hi darby,

> Think it makes more sense to just stay in Positano the whole time?<

Stay in either Positano or Sorrento and visit the other.

We stayed in Praiano and liked it very much.

You might find the AC part of my trip report useful.

We stayed in Positano - at Buca di Bacco on the beach - loved it. Much better than Sorrento. When leaving Positano, you will brobably need to hire a car to take you to Salerno or Naples very early, so you can take a train to Rome in time for your flight. Positano limosine service picked us up at 4:30 am and took us to the Naples airport. Check the train schedules, and assume you'll miss your first train!
