Mmmm Roman Food tour by Walks of Italy. Highly recommend! You can read our report of our experience with it here: http://rovingrichards.com/travel/italy-2014/food-tour/ and that also includes a link if you're interested in booking.

Amazing, amazing feedback. Wow, thank you all!! I'll devour details and comment as I go but am thrilled, thank you. Tomorrow is my dedicated "Tuscany" day, I expect to have a good plan and even some bookings in place.

We stayed at B&B Al Centro di Roma a few years ago and it was a great location for sightseeing - not far from our favorite coffee shop Sant' Eustacchio too. Clean and affordable, with an elevator.

As much as I adore Positano (I try and spend a week there each June), I would not try and see it as a day trip, especially if you are on a budget. It would take over 3 hours each way, although the views from the ferry from Salerno are amazing.

I rented a car in Chiusi from Hertz in 2011. Got a Ford Focus with automatic, so that's not always a problem at the smaller rental places.
