3 Paris Hotels, any Comments?
 

I am considering these three hotels for late May.

Hotel Queen Mary
Concorde St Augustine
Hotel Berne Opera

All in the 8th District.

We are in our sixties and this is the first trip to Paris for 3 days on our way to Scotland.

Is there a special reason you have chosen to stay in the 8th? Most folks on here seem to prefer the 6th, 7th, and the 4th. I like the 6th because you can walk out of your hotel and be "right there", near something fun or interesting to do or see. I may be mistaken, but I would think the 8th would be very quiet in the evening.

I have not stayed at any of those, but I would definitely choose the Queen Mary from that list. I have read many positive comments and reviews of that hotel, and never anything negative. It is also the best location by a bit, in my opinion. It is near Place Madeleine which is good for shopping and has marvelous food shops, and it's fairly easy to get around from there and it's not far out.

I have never heard of anyone who stayed at the others or much about them, but they appear (from what I've seen online) to be fairly typical decent 3* hotels, a bit bland perhaps but probably fine. I don't know the area around the St Augustin metro stop at all, but it's a little farther out and the hotel just doesn't look like anything special. I think that is a nice enough area.

My last choice would be the Berne Opera (which also looks okay but nothing special) because it's in an area that borders on not so nice or dicier, and it is even more distant--around a train station and some questionable activity of various kinds. It's street is right next to the railroad tracks, also. I just wouldn't stay there myself. I don't know how that hotel got its name as it isn't near the opera.

Thanks for the info, that is exactly what I was looking for. It is difficult looking at internet sites when not really knowing the areas.

Thank you for the advice. We liked the area because of the writeups about the surrounding area. Quiet at night is probably exactly what we need since hubby's health is not perfect and he needs a good night's rest.

Hi Mary,

May I suggest a visit to the Musee Jacquemar-Andre, lunch or tea at the Museum and a walk through the Parc Monceau as a pleasant, heart-friendly way to get the feel of being a Parisian?

My favorite Paris hotel is in the 8th, very near to the St. Augustin metro stop. I really like the area because it not a typical tourist spot -- seems very Parisian to me. There are several cafes along Place St. Augustin (in front of the church) which are great for people watching. Also, you're not far from several popular attractions. It's less than a 10 minute walk to Place Madeleine, the major department stores, etc. And with the metro near by, you're never far from anything really.
It is quiet at night, but I'm OK with that.

Also, there's a Monoprix department store less than a block from the metro stop (great for picking up picnic items or last minute toiletries), and there's a bank with 4 ATM machines just around the corner from the metro as well. All very convenient.

It's definitely not as popular with tourists as the 5th, 6th, and 7th arrondisements, but it's a great location none the less.
