There is a great restaurant on Burano called Gatto Nero. It is right on the main canal and on a sunny day those little houses pop like a box of licorice allsorts. The boat fruit and vege market pulls up in front of this restaurant and I love to watch the locals buy what they need from the boat.

You'd have to be a misery guts to be unimpressed by Burano on a sunny day. It is a gorgeous place.

"...misery guts.."

Nice turn of phrase, under the circumstances, especially.

Blueeyedcod - I was rather put off il Gatto Nero when I was told that the local bank manager eats there every day for much less than the tourists are charged, but I accept that that's rather naive of me, and of course it does suggest that the food is good!
