3 nights in Provence
My wife and I have decided to add three days in Provence to a trip to Paris in September. We plan on taking train from Paris to Avignon and renting a car. What would be a good central location that make a good base to make day trips from but that also has nice restaurants for dinner? Any suggestions on areas or hotels is appreciated. Thanks,

We based ourselves in Arle at the Hotel d'arlatan which we loved. it's an ancient hotel in a good location in Arles-it also has parking. We found Arles to be very centrally located to Les Baux, St. Remy, Pont du Gard and Avignon. We also ate in some wonderful restaurants (one of which was right around the corner from the hotel). Also there is a wonderful glace (ice cream) spot Soleilis around the corner from the hotel too.

I second the suggestion for Arles as a base. We stayed at Hotel Le Calendal. It is only about a 25 minute drive from Avignon. It is a great central location for day trips and easy to get in and out of town. Also there is always something to do - day or night. There are a many decent restaurants in Arles but if you are willing to drive within a 15 -30 minute radius there are several outstanding restaurants. JoeG |
My wife and I enjoyed Mas de Entremont just outside Aix. We used this hotel as a base for visiting Provence and it was an easy drive down to the coast for an afternoon. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant, one of the best we dined at during our two weeks in France.

We stayed at the Auberge de Benvengudo outside Les Baux. The hotel is quiet and lovely and in the midst of a beautiful garden. It has a great terrace and pool. The restaurant is excellent and there are several other exellent restaurants in Les Baux. We found it to be very conveniently located and a lovely place to return to at the end of the day.
