3 nights in Paris
 

3 nights in Paris - then onto Spain. Best hotel to stay at in Paris - mid-price range.

At least define "mid-price" for us, in currency.

As a bonus, maybe define "Best" as well or what's most important to you in a hotel.

Best price?, Best location?, Best access to transit? Best shopping? Best decor? Best neighborhood (if so define what you like in a neighborhood)? Best view? Best value? Best size? Best ambiance?

Sorry for the brief request. I am traveling with a girlfraiend in mid June, 2011. Mid-price for a hotel would be about $150-$200/night US (if that is considered mid-price in Paris). We would like to stay someplace central (Champs Elysees area) but may prefer closer to Notre Dame. We prefer to stay in a hotel that offers more of the charm of Paris versus a chain hotel, so best ambiance in a hotel, but would also deviate from the hotel istself if you have a fovorite neighborhood with a decnt hotel that is still somewhat centralized.

I understand it easy to get around in Paris and since our time is limited our main attractions to see are the Notre Dame Cathederal, the Eiffel tower and the Louvre (although realize that would be limited). We'd also like to walk around some fresh markets and do some shopping. We are ok walking if that allows for some off the beaten path areas. Anything else you could recommend for 3 days would be appreciated. I hope this helps?

ANy hotel on Rue Jacob area should fit your requirements...try the DAnube, Verneuil, des MArroniers, Deux Continents, d'Angleterre. I've stayed in all of them and they are all wonderful. In easy walking distanace of ND, and the Iles, d'Orsay, Louvre, eIFFEL AND THE cHAMPS. lOTS OF RESTOS AND BISTROS NEARBY, AND GOOD TRANSPORTATION

Champs Elysées is not, to my mind, central, and it's one of the most charmless streets of Paris. I'd look for a hotel in the 6th or 5th or 4th.

Hotel Bonaparte is often recommended. I'm currently looking at Hotel Claude Bernard for an upcoming trip.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into the hotels mentioned above. I'll also study a map more closely to get a better idea of the various areas and streets. I definitely want a charming area foremost, so will avoid the Champs Elsees area.

I've stayed at the Bonaparte - it's a good hotel, good location (in the 6th), and within your budget. Some people have had issues with their online booking (not me, I always telephone). I suggest you CALL them.

Another hotel that is within your budget and very well located is Hotel de Suez. Next to the Musee de Cluny in the 5th.

Also, since you mentioned it, both of the above are a 5-10 walk to Notre Dame.

Another question, is my budget limiting me from staying at a GREAT place or in a GREAT area? I'm willing to pay more but don't intend to spend much time in the hotel, BUT still want the charm and to experience a good first stay in Paris. I'll be visiting France again with my husband in 2012 for a longer visit.

My favorite place is the Latin Qtr. I have stayed at Hotel Bonaparte and also stayed at the St Germaine Spa Hotel across from La Duree the best place for pastries. There is also Hotel Du College du France as well. They have a great view of the Eiffel Tower. I enjoyed all the hotels I have listed. Last year we rented an apartment on Ru de Seine through Paris Perfect and loved that as well. I would recommend staying in the Latin Qtr and have a drink at my favorite Cafe Bar Du Marche. Good Luck

No,I don't think your budget is limiting you from staying at a great hotel or area. It is what it is, unless you want to splurge $500 or more a night for some grandiose place you probably wouldn't spend much time in. Your budget is probably well within line of most of the Paris travelers here on this forum. You can easily have charm on a budget in Paris. It's one of the most affordable hotel cities in the world, IMO...thouugh if you're American the exchange rate right now makes it tough. You've gotten lots of good suggestions...pick one. I'm sure you'll be pleased. Most of your time will be spent outside the hotel anyway. And that's not to say that the hotel suggestions given here won't provide you with a pleasant hotel experience. You don't have to spend a fortune in Paris for a hotel to have a very decent room, even lovely.
