Gretchen, my Father was a highly decorated WW11 paratrooper who lied and enlisted at 17, my relatives go back to Bunker Hill. I am in no way making light of what or who did what. Many of the soldiers fighting for Hitler were there or their whole family would have been sent to a work camp. Many were not Nazis. I have friends that are dead now but fought for the other side. I have heard their stories also and we were stationed in Germany. It was an ugly war but there are children in La Cambe that are 15, 16 and 17.

Le Conquerant was the name of the pub, always opened for a drink and very nice. La Fringale was our fav place for dinner.

Not making a judgement of ANY of it. War is stupid and the Nazi regime worse than heartless. Look at the children soldiers in Africa this very minute.
My home town of Troy Ohio was where WACO gliders were made and your dad probably jumped from one of them--nothing buy plywood and canvas!!. That was why Ste. Mere Eglise and its museum was so interesting.
