3 MO pregnant for London trip!

Are there any other women out there who have gone on a trip abroad while pregnant? I will be approx 3 months pregnant for our long-planned trip to London. We'd planned on doing a lot of walking & sight-seeing, taking the tube to get around, etc... I'm feeling fine, so I guess it should be no big deal. I'm just a little nervous as this is our first baby!

With all of that said, does anyone know of a good place to buy Peter Rabbit nursery items? I figure England is the place to be to find goodies for the nursery (which is Peter Rabbit themed)!

~Renee

At 3 months you should be fine. I went to St. Martin at 4 months and Hawaii at 30 weeks.

Make sure you drink plenty of water on the plane and get up and stretch your legs. (That shouldn't be a problem as you'll need to go to the bathroon every 20 minutes.)

The second trimester is probably the best time to travel..enjoy!

You should be fine. Do some walking now if you don't usually, so you won't be fighting shin splints! But it will still be early and you should be fine. Expecially if you are taking those super pregnant mom vitamins. I don't think I ever felt so healthy in my life taking those. I was 4 mos pregnant with my first when we went to Guadaloupe for a vacation. We rode bikes, hiked up a waterfall, etc. You will get tired and know when you need to rest! (And boy, will you sleep well.)

This is a decision that can be very difficult to make. I was just over 3 mos. pregnant with my second child, having a perfectly fine pregnancy, when I experienced some problems during a vacation to Italy & France. I was at the time in Cinque Terre, in Italy, and the logistics I considered if I had to get to a hospital were horrible. Everything turned out fine in the end, I have a wonderful, healthy daughter, and the complications could well have occurred whether I was at home or on vacation, but if something worse had happened, I never would have forgiven myself.

Talk to your doctor. Most would probably say it's ok to go (mine did - little did we know), though the 2d trimester is considered to be the best (1st trimester is the highest risk of miscarriage; by the 3rd you're not going to be wanting to expend quite so much energy), but we can't always control timing.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my post. I really appreciate hearing your own experiences with this... since this is my first pregnancy, I just don't know what to expect & I am a little nervous about the traveling -- but definitely want to still go! I will talk to my Dr as well.
~Renee

Peter Rabbit items are available in most big department stores: House of Fraser, Debenhams, Selfridges, Harrods etc. There is a specialist wedgewood shop on Regents sheet which should have then. Happy shopping

Renee, I went to London when I was 5 months pregnant and had a great time. It was not any different than any of our other trips. My Ob/gyn told me to drink a lot of water on the plane, get up & walk around so you don't get a blood clot and wear support hose (I thought he was kidding - I pictured my grandmother. I bought black ones). Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bring snacks for your room as you will be really hungry all the time. I would eat a granola bar as soon as I woke up because it took us a while to get ready & go out for breakfast. Have a great trip!

I went to France at 3 months preg. I had been having problems before I went and was threatening miscarriage. The doctor still did not think the trip was a problem and let me go. Maybe he was a quack but I listened to his opinion and went on the trip. I did have problems again while in France. But the doctors were great there, and everything worked out fine.

My point is, they do have great hospitals and doctors in Europe. If you have a problem, they are just as qualified as US doctors to handle the situation. And fortunately for you, you are going to a country where you speak the language. (I had to point to words in a French/English dictionary in order for the doctors to know what was wrong.)

While on the trip do what you would do here... rest often, take naps, eat healthy food, drink milk, take vitamins, etc.

Have fun and buy your baby gifts in different sizes. I bought my daughter 6 dresses in different sizes so that she could wear her European dresses for many years. I also bought her a Sorbonne sweat shirt. Good thing I actually had a girl.

One thing my doctor suggested when travelling while pregnant is to take a copy of my records.

One tip for morning sickness. I found if I cut my vitamins in half and spaced out the dosage, morning sickness diminished. I never figured out what to do about the fatigue.

Congrats!

To answer your question re: Peter Rabbit - you'll be able to find all kinds of things which are Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit) related while you are in the UK. Just for fun you might want to try this website before heading over there: www.peterrabbit.co.uk. It's fabulous and even has items for sale. I also lists exhibitions/events that take place all over the world that are in connection with Beatrix Potter. Definitely worth a gander!
