I would simply walk along the Bahnhofstrasse, down to the lake. It's a nice stroll. Have brunch/lunch/dinner sitting outside, if available.
You can also stroll around the 'old city' area, which is a couple of blocks off of the Bahnhofstrasse. Zurich is great for strolling if you have nice weather! If you walk down the B'strasse and turn the corner at Bucherer (Rolex store) and go up the hill and back down to the river, you'll see a lovely church with huge double spires. I'm sure someone here knows its name.
Flying into Zurich in less than two weeks! Can't wait to be there once again.

simpson brings it pretty much right to the core...
3 hours realy isnt long.. even tho, zürich is not that big, in 3 hours you get nowhere basically...
but since the mainstation is right in the center of züri, id just start walking in one direction, turn an few corners, walk a few aisles and then be back to the station on time for your train...
you will, undoubtedly, find something you like within short reach of the HB (HauptBahnhof - Main station)

Stop at the Tourist Info office ia a large corner of the Hauptbahnhof. Get a map. Have them show you Augustinergasse and Napfgasse, in addition to Bahnhohstrasse. These are two cobbled, pedestrian-only lanes filled with small shops and fountains, cafes. Visit Fraumunster and Grossmunster-two cathedrals across the narrow river from each other. Depending on the time of year, take the regional S-train up top the 'local' mountain Uetliberg- for lunch and terrific views....
