You really don't have enough time to go into London...I suggest browsing through the terminal...There are so many shops and restaurants that the time will go by quickly.

Use the restrooms and get in line for your next flt. 3 hrs is nothing, you cannot go anyplace in that time. There are shops and places to eat in the terminal.

Art: I fully agree with Merilee. Downtown London is much too far. But you knew that, didn't you?
Have a nice cup of English tea, maybe or a beer! ;-)But it's probably too early in the morning for a beer. I am sure you will catch up in Munich. ;-)
Have a great trip and don't forget your pin, if you happened to receive one.

PS: Over here, weather has changed and forecast does not look extremely terrific for Central Europe. So bring warm stuff and take some chocolate for the flight. Dark one, remember!

Here's a great site for terminal maps and stuff to do:
http://www.airwise.com/airports/europe/LHR/LHR_01.html

bon voyage, art!

Art, Here is what you should do.(Wink,wink). As soon as you clear throught customs start jogging to the Heathrow express. This should only take you about 8 minutes and splitting the differance on the maximum waiting time to 7 minutes you can then jump on the train and in 15 minutes be at Paddington station. A quick sprint and you can be at the exit doors, look at all of the taxi's, re-enter the station and catch the next train back to Heathrow. Would think you could do this in well under an hour. Please provide a trip report on this phase on your return. Seriously, stay at Heathrow and have a good trip.

Thanks for your responses. I knew that I did not have time to go to London. I'll be there next year. I guess I'll just peruse the airport, read, have some tea and in general just look around.
Regards,
Art
Don't count on doing too much at LHR in only 3 hours. Unless your flights are on the same airline and in the same concourse you may only have time to get from one to the other.

There are 4 terminals and if you are transiting from 1, 2, or 3 to T4 you will probably not even have time for a quick beer. IF you are on the same airline and don't have to change terminals then a beer or some quick shopping might be possible. You need to be in the departure area 2 hours before your flight time.

Hi Art

There's plenty of shopping and eating at Heathrow including Whiskies of the world, Harrods, Boots, Burberry, Glorious Britain, Austin Reed, Mappin & Webb, Hamleys, Dunhill, Liberty, Scotch House, Past times, British Museum,
Pret a Manger, Shakespeare Alehouse, Tap & Spile, JD Weatherspoons, Costa Coffee - see no need to go to London at all ;-)

Don't forget to bring an umbrella and please - no shorts! ;-)

Have fun!
