3% discount from travel company for paying by check vs. credit care--good idea or bad?!!
I'm looking for some input for my dilemma. I'm planning a trip for our 10th anniversary and the travel packages we've been quoted say the price include a 3% discount for payment by check. Since I'm expecting to pay in the neighborhood of $7000, this would be a couple hundred dollars. Have any of you paid by check, or did you pay more for convenience and security of using your credit card? Thanks!!!!

No, never by check. If something goes wrong, you are out all that money.

Ditto. Use a credit card. You won't lose all of your money if the agency falls through.

Clark Howard, the financial adviser on the radio, also says no. Even if you pay with a credit card it's best not to buy more than 60 days before the trip as you are allowed a 60 day window to file a "dispute".

Hi Meesh,
Depends on how well you know the travel agency. You might think of the credit card charge as an insurance policy in case the agency messes up.
