3 days in Vienna
Hi All,
As part of a Danube cruise, we will be spending 3 days in Vienna, starting Saturday 10th November 2018. From the guide books there is so much to see, so little time! We are staying near the Rathaus, so looks pretty central. Being Jewish, we'd like to explore some of the old Jewish areas as well as museums, churches etc. Please could anybody assist with suggestions of what to see, how to plan our time plus any other useful tips. We would also love to listen to some classical music and are looking at a concert at St Anne's Church. Should we book in advance? I believe that the concerts held at the Schönbrunn Palace are very touristy? With thanks in advance, John |
With exploring the museums your 3 days will be quite busy.
Look at the combination tickets offered for the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History) and its affiliates to save money (and time standing in queues). Ditto for the Hapsburg ticket. The two Jewish Museums are on one ticket, good for four days. Decide between Schloss Schönbrunn and Schloss Belvedere if interested; without an intense itinerary you might not have time to see both. Purchase your ticket online to the former to avoid queues, and be prepared to spend at least the full morning touring. The concerts at Annakirche are lovely (and so is the interior of the church); booking ahead is recommended. If you have particular museum interests I would be happy to suggest from among the more than 100 to choose from here! :) You will miss the Christmas markets by 3 days, but this might work to your advantage as visiting those might impact your schedule. Happy Planning! |
Hi FourforTravel,
Many thanks for your reply and great tips! |
We enjoyed watching the practice sessions for th Lippizaner horses. Also enjoyed walking the geounds at Schoenbrunn Palace.
We alao visited the Sigmund Freud Mueum located in his former apartment in the university area . Inter ating and it tis in with Jewish history as he left Vienna for London after the Gestapo stopped his daughter Anna. .We used the Metro to get around Vienna. |
If you are familiar with the movie "The Third Man" about post-WW2 Vienna, you might see if this small, fascinating museum is open during your visit:
