3 days in Bordeaux without car

Hi everyone,

Will be going to Bordeaux in June for 3 days and would like some advice on what to do. We'll be there during the weekend before the wine exposition (not sure if the guided tours to the vineyards will still be available) and planning to taste some wines, take a guided tour to St Emilion. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Jillian,

I hope you have a great time. We are flying tomorrow and will be attending the Grand Cru weekend which is this weekend. Then we will continue to St-Emi, Dordogne and finish in Toulouse 2 weeks from now.

There are plenty of private guided tours in the area, but I think you are talking about the tours in the framework of the exposition.

In any case, have a great time!

Hi J,

You could take the train out to Arcachon to visit the ocean and have some terrific oysters.

Hire a bike and take a ride out on the bike paths

There's plenty to see and do right in Bordeaux, which has some lovely parks, a nice beaux-arts museum, an attractive cathedral, one of the most beautiful theaters in Europe, a great pedestrian shopping area (off rue Ste-Cathérine), and some waterfront areas to explore. Have osyters and champagne at Le Boîte à Huitres, choose from among scores of fabulous restaurants (Le Chapon Fin and Le Tupina are outstanding), go to the markets, and drop by some of the fabulous wine stores. If you can get out to Arcachon and Cap Ferret and the Dune du Pylat, so much the better.

The Maison du Vin and the tourist office, practically side by side, are both very well-run operations that can help you with touring the area.

Thanks everyone for your ideas!

I'm hoping Bordeaux won't be too crowded with the wine expo. Would love to visit the sand dunes if there's time =)

Bilboburgler: Is it easy to bike in the region? Can't find much information on biking to the nearby vineyards. (I've done biking in Bourgogne though)

is not bad, for an overview but there are also bike paths which include going down to the Arcachon and into the vinyards.

bike hire put "Location Velo" and "Bordeaux" into "page jaune"

Or look at the Gironde which is the area in which Bordeaux sits
