Dont miss the fabulous UNESCO village of Saint Emilion! They have a wonderful tourist office that offers all kinds of tours of the town several times a day. Topics range from architecture to unserground caves to wine. Also a wine museum and many opportunities to taste the St. Emilion Bordeaux wines.

There is the Arcachon Basin and to the north the Romanesque churches of the Charente which also is where cognac is produced.

Browsing through this album might give you some ideas (La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré is a little far):

- As said, St. Emilion is a charming village, yet touristy.

- Spend half a day driving through the Médoc, mainly to see the famous chateaux (from the outside), e.g. Chateau Margaux, Chateau Cos d'Estournel and more.

- Near Arcachon, climb Europe's largest Dune, the Dune du Pilat (or Pyla) - and take a refreshing swim in the Atlantic afterwards.

- Walk along the endless Atlantic beach - the "Silver Coast".

- Also, stroll through Bordeaux and enjoy the variety of gratings at the houses' windows.

I also climbed the Grand Dune of Pilat: http://tinyurl.com/dunepilat

But basically, the whole coast of Les Landes is charming: http://tinyurl.com/omgysvw
