3 days in Barcelona
We are family of 10 (6 adults and 4 teenage boys) and are thinking of visiting Barcelona in early August we only have three days to visit and have never been there.
Any recommendations as to must-see sites, tours, and restaurants? |

For a traditional Catalan meal, I recommend Set Portes (Seven doors) from 1836. An institution in town and tons of history in the walls. Have had several superb meals here the past few years, and you can expect some 40-50€/person. Last time we had a fabulous fish soup, monkfish/rape a la plancha and a divine Catalan speciality Arroz caldoso. Popular with tourists, but still a favourite with locals. Sunday lunch is a good time to visit, or do as the locals and come after 9pm. Reservation is a must: http://www.7portes.com/angles/
From the 175 anniversary in 2011: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujDIsGzDO38 The oldest restaurant in town, no fuss and family owned Can Culleretes from 1786, can also be an experience. Traditional Catalan food, old world atmosphere and great and very efficient, no small-talk adult women running the place. Reservations a must. http://www.culleretes.com/ http://11870.com/pro/can-culleretes Video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vojFcv1_lyk For lunch, I will very much recommend typical L'Aribau close to the university from 1450. Here businesspeople, academics and all kind of locals drop in for a three course lunch with drinks incl for some 10-12€. Excellent place with lots of local specialities. Had a wonderful local sausage Botifarra with slightly garlicy white beans here last time in May for some 6€. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...a.html#REVIEWS http://barcelona.salir.com/laribau La Perla at the foot of wonderful Montjuic (with the castle, the many museums, the 1992 olympic arenas, the great parks) is as genuine you'll find a restaurant in Barcelona. Very popular for a huge family lunch. Expensive and delicious. Only open for lunch: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Catalonia.html About Montjuic (Jewish mountain) right in the center of Barcelona: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Engl...SJpH1t4T6vJumh The Montjuic castle, full of tragical Barcelona history: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Cast...R9O-WgosZ1dr_0 |
Another tip if you want to be connected to the Internet at any time and place, rent a pocket wifi I decided to rent in https://www.easymifi.com/en/
I allowed to be connected to the internet at all times and helped me to find all the sites typical of the cities. |
I would stay in El Born (we did so as a family of five, 18+) because you can walk to so many interesting and fun sights. You also can catch the Metro line 4 at the Jaume 1 station, going to Passieg de Gracia in one direction and the beaches area (close as you can get, then walk a few blocks) in the other.
We stayed here, http://tinyurl.com/lvpv4jh and they have multiple units, so you could be together. Depending on your interests, I would be sure to see Parc Guell, which is best reached by bus or taxi. Taller de Tapas in El Born can handle large parties, assuming you don't arrive at peak time. Sharing paella at the seafront in Barceloneta is fun, we like Cava Mar there. It's one stop on the Metro and then a 15-minute walk from El Born. |
IpMarc, I take it you don't realize you're six months late to the party...

Robert 2533, as the OP is not due to travel until August, I'm sure IpMarc's detailed contribution will still be helpful.....
