3 adults in a Triple room at Hotel Attalos- crazy?

My husband, adult daughter and I have a reservation at Hotel Attalos, but I just read a review that the triple rooms are extremely small. Should we change to Central Hotel or are all Athens Triple rooms pretty much the same? (For that price range and central location)

This is just for 2 nights and we don't expect to be in the room very much. But we do need a good night's sleep before the long flight home to US.

Thanks!

What is the bed configuration? Is there a double and a single - or is your daughter going to be stuck on a roll-away? (I wouldn;t do the latter - just too uncomfortable except for pretty small kids).

If you consider the cost of the entire holiday then why not just pay for one extra room?

I agree with the post above. Get the extra room, esp. if it's before a long flight. Some of the hotel rooms I've seen in Athens barely have room to turn around or put down a suitcase.

My DH and I had a teeny tiny room when we visited Athens and it's not fun w/ suitcases, etc. We stayed at Hotel Philippos and some friends stayed at their sister hotel, Herodion, which was right around the corner from our hotel. We walked over there to meet others for drinks that were going on our cruise. Wished we had booked there instead.

Here is a picture of a junior suite at Herodion, think it would be perfect. Ask for a room w/ view of Acropolis, it is stunning at night. This hotel also has a rooftop bar.

(room is approx. 286 sq. feet or 26 meters)

Location was perfect, convenient to everything, we walked everywhere. Took a walking tour that included a tour of the metro station underground, highly recommend this tour.

Despina (the owner) was our guide and she was fantastic! Loved this tour. We booked online before we left, small groups too (about 9 in ours).

Good luck, hope this helps! You will love Athens.

Thank you all for the great tips...will probably make some changes!

OK, one last research effort and I have a couple questions.

I checked out Herodian, but it is double what we are paying and I'm really trying to stick to our budget. Yes, it may seem like a drop in the overall budget bucket but as a newly retired, frugal New Englander I'd really like to stay in our budget. So I found a couple others. I'm hoping someone has some knowledge of these to help me decide.

- Hotel Tony, has a studio or even a 2 bedroom splurge. Super close to Acropolis

- "Live in Athens Short Stay Apartments" (found on booking.com), has a one bedroom. Does anyone know how safe the area is (it's in Psiri on Agion Anargiron - close to Attalos Hotel)

- "A for Athens" - has more space in their Triple, but also getting into more money.

Thank you all

I have only ever been in the lobby of the Attalos. The lobby is tiny.

The hotel is at the edge of the Plaka near the hippy market.

I guess the Grand Bretagne is out of the question.

I stayed in a double room the Attalos. Was happy I was alone because the uncomfortable bed would have been tight for two people. I got breakfast with rate but when I checked out they wanted to charge me for breakfast. I pulled out a copy of my confirmation with breakast included and they took breakfast off the bill immediately. I agree, get two rooms if at all possible.

On my last trip I picked up old French keys at antique stores. Have displayed them in a shadow box and put in my bedroom. Every morning I see the keys and I am immediately transported back to France and where I bought them.

Sorry posted this on the wrong site. Sorry. Was suppose to be put under souvenirs from France.

I have friends who stayed at HOTEL TONY and really liked it, although they said the AC in their room wasn't very good, and the decor was a bit dark for their taste ( not a big concern for you)). I think it's on a residential street very close to The Acropolis? Anyway, seems like a safe bet if you must stay within budget.

Stay at my favorite budget Gem and you will easily be able to afford the 2 rooms -- Hotel Phaedra. Divinely located, just off the pedestrian walkway south of the Acropolis ... no-cars lanes on either side, quiet at night. Lobby is very basic but hotel is very clean, linen is crisp, and balconies on one side look up at Acropolis, on other side look down on sunken courtyard of Ag. Ekaterina church (If u wnat to locate on Map, find Hadrians Arch, and run your finger into Plaka district along Lysikrates street to the church). 21 rooms, family run, 24 hr desk, nice people. Breakfast is optional. They also have FAB rooftop with canpied tables... u can bring your meals, snax, sunset beverages up there to enjoy.

We stayed at Hotel Tony and it was great! AC was very strong and our rooms were all newly decorated and very modern (we had three rooms and were there in 2011). I would definitely stay there again.

Dacon, what dates will you be in Athens?

Dacon_R Sep 14th, 2014 07:52 PM

Luv2Travel15, we will be there Oct 15-17

My husband and I stayed in a double at Hotel Attalos. It was small and basic but comfortable. The roof terrace with bar was a big plus. We slept well enough, and liked the neighborhood (far fewer tourists than in Plaka; interesting local shops on the street--not tourist trinkets; very close to the metro so easy, inexpensive transport to and from the airport). Some good restaurants within walking distance, too. If there's a separate real bed (not a roll-away) for your daughter, I think you will be satisfied with Attalos. It's the right price, that's for sure.

Dacon_R Sep 15th, 2014 06:36 PM

Thank you AprilLilacs,, that is helpful. It was the rooftop view that intrigued us. Although, I'm not sure how much time we will really be in the hotel to enjoy it!

"But we do need a good night's sleep before the long flight home to US."

LOL, I actually manage long flights better if I did NOT sleep well the night before because it means I am actually able to sleep on the flight! ;-)

Luv2travel15 Sep 16th, 2014 06:10 AM

Did you try emailing Herodian to see if they have any special offers?

We were in London a couple of years ago and did a pre-cruise stay for 2 nights. There were 3 of us in a very small room but we made the best of it for 2 nights. If you are happy w/ the rate you got at Attalos then go with it. You will be fine. You will only be sleeping in the room, trust me!

Oct. is a lovely time in Athens!
