Then learn some bloody geography!

Because sending someone to Tabard St is mad. As you will learn as you continue to live here.

I'm afraid you're in the gobshite yanks area at the momemt.

You can do better.

jamikins May 17th, 2010 06:34 AM

Hahahaha - ok this is ridiculous!

This is my last post about this.

I wasnt sending anyone to Tabard St - I was sending them to the George!!!

I was just mentioning out of interest that it's in the same area as where the Tabard Inn from Canterbury Tales started!

There really is no reason to be rude, I dont go making comments about you being a gobshite anything no matter what I may think about you.

jamikins May 17th, 2010 06:36 AM

OK, one more post:

http://www.pubs.com/main_site/pub_de...php?pub_id=92#

'The George was rebuilt in 1676, after a devastating fire swept Southwark. It was one of many such inns IN THE AREA, perhaps the most famous being THE TABARD, where Chaucer began his 'Canterbury Tales' in 1388. The Tabard too was rebuilt after the fire, but was demolished in the late 19th century, despite a public outcry.'

Cholmondley_Warner May 17th, 2010 06:58 AM

Like I said. Gobshite.

It's a bit of a hike from The George to Tabard St to look at 1970s office blocks.

Stop sending people to the few bits of London you know.

CW - Fed up with North American gobshites.

CW's territorial instincts are on overload this time of year, 'specially when pubs are mentioned.

Is it true that CW is a diplomat ?

It may suprise you to know that I was turned down by the Diplomatic Service.

But on this minor issue I am right. Trust me.

CW - love the way you changed the reference to North Americans - that way you can include the Mexicans as well

stokebailey May 17th, 2010 01:03 PM

No reason to exclude Panamanians or Tierra del Fuegans.

StCirq May 17th, 2010 01:09 PM

While a visit to St-Antonin-le-Noble isn't a bad idea if you're going to be combing the area, as mentioned its market is hardly unique. Don't go out of your way for it. There's a fabulous market in almost every town.

AlanRow, they're Aussies, not Americans. And they've already posted about getting thee correct visa.

I, France, I'd start in Normandy and Brittany and go down the coast to La Rochelle, the Ile de Ré, Saintes, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Biarritz, then head to Toulouse, then explore the Dordogne, Languedoc, and Provence.

Are you then driving to Venice, or flying or taking the train?

It's only every 5 years when there's a general election. It's the only time he can get laid with some lady driven insane by counting votes in a leisure centre

aussiedreamer May 17th, 2010 02:20 PM

WOH!!!

Driving to Venice yes StCirq.

Happiness is waking up and checking all the overnight posts, thanks so much for all your wonderful help.

I'd say that your plans are not totally hopeless. (Article in the SMH today about Australian capacity for irony refers.)

And the AUD is quietly going ballistic against the Euro, so you've picked a great time to travel. For what it's worth, we used ANZ travel cards last time we went to Italy - a Visa debit card that's denominated in Euro so you don't have exchange rate changes to worry about. Can be topped up using Bpay.

Have a great trip.

Carlux, thank you, I knew that spelling was wrong, but couldn't think of the correct spelling. Cathie

StCirq May 17th, 2010 07:18 PM

Where are you ultimately going to ditch the car? Are you aware of the huge fees to drop off a car in a country other than the one you picked it up in? Maybe something to consider...It might be cheaper for you to take a low-cost intra-Europe flight from somewhere in France to Venice and, when you're done there, rent another car.

aussiedreamer May 17th, 2010 09:29 PM

StCirq we have leased the car for the full length our stay. Picking up and dropping off in Paris (as per 4th last paragraph of op).

Yep timed beautifully with the exchange rate :-) sure is helping as I'm paying deposits now.

Locals, Mayoral and Europeans too!

bilboburgler May 18th, 2010 04:29 AM

Millau not far from Roquefort and the cheese caves. If you have time take a tour and look at all the people deep into cheese

I was interested in seeing a response to Alan Row's point about 90-day limit in the Schengen area.

<blue>alanRow on May 17, 10 at 8:00am
3.5 months in France, Italy, Spain & United Kingdom.
My first question would be - how much are you spending outside the UK?
The other three countries are members of Schengen which means that from the date you first enter one of them you can only spend 90 of the next 180 days in them. Spend more time and you are breaking the law.</blue>
