3-4 Star hotel near Arch de Triomphe
 

Hello - we are visiting friends in Paris in April and they live near the Arch de Triomphe. Can anyone recommend a nice, yet affordable hotel in this area? Their street address is rue des Acacias, which I have not been able to find on a map. If we cannot stay near them, at least within a metro stop would be nice. I really appreciate any recommendations. I know little about Paris!

Rue des Acacias is NW of the Arch off Avenue de La Grand Armee (why is army a feminine noun?), which is a continuation of the Champs Elysee.

The metro stop is Argentine, which is on the no. 1 line.

Even if you stayed as far away as the 5th or 6th districts, you could be there in about 1/2 hr.

The three-star Hotel Princesse Caroline is a stone's throw from the Arc. The lobby is just ok and there's no view, but the rooms are excellent, the larger rooms easily meet 4-star standards. www.hotelprincessecaroline.fr
We usually stay at the 4-star Sofitel Le Parc off the Place Victor Hugo, which is a short walk from the Arc. We usually pay in the range of 175 to 200 euro per night. www.sofitel.com will show you the Sofitels near the Arc. They are all 4 star hotels and won't be cheap, but you can often find some good deals on their web site.
Can you tell us what affordable means to you? Is $250 per night affordable or are you looking for under $200? Given the weak dollar, if you want 4 stars in that neighborhood, you will have to pay about $200 and up per night for it, unless you luck out on Priceline.

Thank you both for the tips. I finally found the street on the map. We would like to spend under $250 a night, but we know Paris is getting more expensive by the day. As long as the hotel is safe and clean, that is the most important!

we have twice stayed at hotel etiole de maillot...just off ave de la armee- it was a wonderful three star- i think it has been remodelled and is now a 4 star...my guess is that the rooms are about 175E now...i cannot afford that so have booked a room at a 2star called hotel riviera close by...the metro stop for both of these is argentine...you might do a search on both of these and see what you like...btw the neighborhood over there is really nice...lots of local services and quiet, too!

The two closest hotels are Argentime, 1 rue Argentine, and Pergolese, 3 rue Pergolese, a bit outside your price limit due to area, but you might get lucky using the discount hotel sites. Good luck! JP

I stayed in the 3* Hotel Regence Etoile some years ago and liked it very much. It's on ave Carnot right near the Arc, and pretty nice. They are in your price range. Here is one good hotel web site that has them listed:

Several years ago we stayed at and enjoyed the Balmoral Hotel, 6 rue de General Lanrezac. It couldn't be more than a minute from the Arch.

Maybe someone can give you mnore up-to-date information.
