How to get to Gatwick airport on time?

Hello

I am trying to plan my trip to London. There is a cheap flight flying out of Gatwick airport to the USA at 7:30 a.m - I am wondering how do i get to the airport on time to catch this flight . I am probably leaving from a hostel near Swiss Cottage - i have checked around and was told that the best way is for me to stay at a Gatwick hotel on that day. Any suggestions. Thanks

At the very least you need to be staying near Victoria Station - trains run to Gatwick from there most of the night. And hotels around Victoria are going to be cheaper than around Gatwick.

You culd get a cab to St Pancras and pick up an early train to Gatwick...If v early you'll need to change

I believe there is a 4:30 Gatwick Express that arrives around 5 a.m. - that should be fine for a 7:30 departure. There is also a 5 a.m. train that arrives 5:30...but you may want the earlier one to get you to the airport with plenty of time.

If you want to save some money, Southern Railway (http://www.southernrailway.com) has a Victoria train at 4 a.m. that arrives at 4:46 and a 5:02 train that arrives at 5:46. (May be cutting it too close for a 7:30 flight.)

Hello

Thank you for the useful information. If my flight at Gatwick leaves at 9 a.m. on a Thursday, can i reach Gatwick airport by 7 a.m. on that day by the tube train and Gatwick train. What time is the first train from Swiss Cottage tube station to Victoria Station? thanks

You don't need to get to Victoria or mess with the Gatwick Express.

As previous posaters have told you, there are through rhe night trains from St Pancras (a 30 min walk from Swiss Cottage) to Gatwick. These stop earlier at West Hampstead, less than a 15 mins walk fromn Swiss Cottage. There are also frequent Southern trains from Victoria.

Tube and bus times at www.tfl.gov.uk. Train times (from West Hampstead, St Pancras and Victoria) at www.nationalrail.co.uk

Don't listen to Freya, whose post will likely be removed because she's shilling for an irrelevant service.

You're not going to drive to Gatwick - the cost of a cab or car service there will be many multiples of your nightly hostel bill.

The Gatwick Express is not much faster than a Southern train because the route goes through the most congested rail corridor in England. St Pancras is closer to your hostel.
