2nd Hand store in Paris

Hello... Getting very excited, leaving for Paris in a few days! Anybody know of some 2nd Hand clothing stores in Paris? I thought it might be interesting to peruse them. Thanks :)

Most of the ones I saw were very expensive if designer duds but the others like the few I saw in the Marais were pretty bad. I can do better here. IMHO!

Many years ago there was a popular one called Reciproque. Maybe Cigale or someone else can tell you if it still worth a visit.

Thanks!

E. it's still there in the 16th but way out of my league. Some are supposedly just off the runways but if you want a Chanel in great condition that was slightly worn or Manalos or Birkin, and you can afford it, go.

Thanks, CC. I will be there in the fall but in my own experience, these places waste a lot of hours. Fine if you live in the city but as a visitor, I am not sure it is worth spending the time...not to mention the money. But thanks..maybe I will check it out. I wonder if anyone else has other places to recommend.

Second-hand clothing is a bit taboo in France, but for many years Réciproque in the 16th has been a good place to find slightly used and fashionable stuff. They have several stores, all in the same small area, each specializing in something different.

my husband has had great luck at a thrift shop in the marais. it's near the corner of rue vielle de temple at les philosophes cafe - the side street there. (i can get the real street name if you'd like.)

anyway, he's gotten a lovely suit jacket, an athletic jacket, plus a fabulous old blue leather motorcycle jacket.

good luck!

I think it's Rue de tiron?

Here's one if you're looking for designer goods...
Most second hand or used clothing shops are called "depot vente" (which can also apply to furniture).

This one has two locations:

Depot Vente 17ieme
109, rue de Courcelles - Metro Pereire-Courcelles

Depot Vente Passy
14,16 rue de la Tour - Metro Trocadero-Passy

Reciproque has become a victim of its own success. It's so famous now that it is almost always packed and prices have risen so much that they're not the bargains they used to be. If you're over there, you might want to take a look anyway but don't expect any deals. (Also, the best selection of women's clothes are in the French equivalents of sizez 0 to 4.)

i think the one in the marais is on rue st. croix de la bretonnerie. if you turn left onto it, from rue vielle de temple, the shop is about three stores down on the right.

smilinsnoboarder Mar 13th, 2006 12:49 PM

Melissa19, would you tell me how to get to that rue. have any idea of which metro? thanks! :)

missdaisy Mar 13th, 2006 01:24 PM

i know! i know! and only 'cause i stayed in that neighborhood in november. hotel de ville is the metro stop...about a three block walk down rivoli to vieille de temple.

melissa19 Mar 13th, 2006 02:57 PM

miss daisy, you are correct! though the st. paul metro stop is also in the marais (both on line #1). take rue vielle du temple north from rue de rivoli and turn left onto rue st. croix de la bretonnerie.

hope you find something great!
