24 Hours on Santorini -- what to do and see?
We are four ladies traveling together. We have 24 hours on Santorini mid-September. Arriving at 7 AM and departing at noon the next day. We think we want to stay in Oia for the view, correct?

What can we do in the morning after we drop our bags at the hotel?

Our assumption is that we should not waste time on a beach, as there are other beaches in other places that are more beautiful.

Our assumption is also that we should not waste time on wineries, as we have been to wineries in Chile, Australia, California. Are the wineries on Santorini that special that we should not miss them?

The only thing we know we want to do is watch the sunset.

If we want to have a cliff-side table for sunset, how early do we need to go to dinner? (Sunset on Sept 19 is at 7:20 PM.)

We are all quite fit and not opposed to hiking the trail from Fira to Oia (or at least part of it) as long as it is not so rough that you need to be looking where you step, instead of looking at the view. Thoughts on that?

We will already have been to Athens and Hydra on this trip.

Thanks for your help.

Go down to Amoudi Harbor below Oia and eat at Katina's. Good luck on seeing a sunset as we only saw muted onrs over 4 N

Mornings in Oia are very special. Walk through the village and enjoy the quiet timelessness. Find a cafe for breakfast. In Oia you have these options for dinner at sunset: Kastro Restaurant, Ochre Wine Bar, Pelekanos Restaurant and Strogili Restaurant. All have websites and reservations can (and should) be made.

My sister and I did the Oia-Fira walk a few years back, not too rough for the most part, with views to die for, just make sure to carry water and sunblock, though mid-Sept should be pleasant. Another spot for stupendous views is the Santo Winery, drop dead gorgeous, definitely worth a stop even if you don't do an actual tour. The Akrotiri site/museum is said to be good too, it wasn't open when in 2011 and this June DH vetoed it:(

I highly recommend the Fira-Oia hike (or, if you want to shorten it somewhat, the Imerovigli-Oia hike). Bus to Fira from Oia and walk back. There are ups and downs but much of the path is wide enough to walk side by side and flat. The views are simply stunning.

Of the 3 nights we stayed in Santorini, we had a really good sunset only on the first. But loved it anyway!

Some say the views for sunset are better in Imerovigili and we should eat dinner there for a sunset instead of Oia. Any thoughts on that?

Imerovigli has the best overall caldera and sunset views of any clifftop village because it's at a higher elevation. Restaurants are limited, however. The 4 restaurants in Imerovigli that get consistently good reviews are La Maltese, The Blue Note at Spiliotoca Apartments, Taverna Imerovigli and Skaros Fish Taverna.
