24 hours in Munich - what are the must-sees?

I'll be going to Munich next month for a job interview, but will have some time free to look round the city. What bits shouldn't I miss?

Chris, don't know your personal tastes, but having been in Munch numerous times, I would suggest the following:

For an initial visit I would concentrate on the area near the Marienplatz. Climb the tower at St Peters Kirche and hopefully get a good view of the Alps, enjoy a beer in the Marienplatz or at the nearby Victualenmarkt, wander up the Karlsplatz and see St. Michaels Kirche and the Two Sisters. You may want to tour the Residenz and don't miss the treasury. The Assam Kirch on Sendlingerstrasse is about as rococco or baroque as it gets. Stroll the pathways of the Englisher Garten and if a nice day have lunch at the See Haus.

Good luck on your interview and enjoy Minich, a nice place to visit.

If you love museums of art, the Alte Pinakothek is superb. Be sure to rent one of their audio-tape players which can guide you around this marvelous collection.

I hope I am not to late. I have been to Munich on many occasions. However, my last time was in the early 1960's. Since you have only a little time (24 hours) I would go to the Train Station (forgot how to say it in German) and get some liberkasecan (sp); Brochen (a german biscuit) and a very large German Beer (the best in the world) and sit at a table in the interior of the station and people watch for at least l hour. Then a quick (guided) tour of the city. I think with this itinerary you will definitely return for a longer visit. Have FUN.

Chris,
We were there in mid Sept. I would echo Tom's choices, just add the HOFBRAHAUS close by the Marienplatz and perhaps the BMW Museum/Factory if you like cars.
