22 Nights in Switzerland

I thought I'd post my itinerary to see if anyone might suggest a change or must see/do in a certain area I'll be visiting.

Day 1- Arrive in Zurich at 8 am, take train to Lugano arrive early afternoon

Day 2- Check out town of Lugano ?

Day 3+4- Have car rental, going to check out Valle Maggia and Valle Verzasca, Lorcano/Ascona area

Day 5- Will be in Lugano, check out Gardia, in the evening off to see the Russian National Orchestra

Day 6- Back to Lorcano take the Centovalli train, bike back from Camedo?

Day 7- Last day in Lugano?

Day 8- Take train from Lugano to Lauterbrunnen, stay in Lauterbrunnen, will have days 9 through 13 to check out area,Murren,Wengen hiking ect?

Day 14- Take train from Lauterbrunnen to Fribourg, check out city of Fribourg

Day 15- Thinking about car rental for the day to check out Bulle, Gruyeres? Would adding in Murten be to much for one day?

Day 16- Murten?

Day 17- Take train from Fribourg to Luzern, check out town

Day 18- Wanted to check out Mt Pitatus but closed through April
Have fondue dinner on steamer boat going around Lake Luzern?

Day 19- Luzern?

Day 20+21- Take train from Fribourg to Zug, stay in Zug for 2 nights?

Day 22- Take train from Zug to Zurich, last day in Switzerland, check out Lindt Chocolate factory to bring goodies home for loved one's.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appriciated, this is my first trip to Europe and I'm looking so forwards to it, thanks in advance to those who reply

First trip to Europe and you're spending all 22 days in Switzerland? That is a great way to see the country, but I do hope you'll plan more trips back to see other countries as well.

I may have missed it, but what time of year are you going?

I really enjoyed Murten when I was there a couple of years ago. Just a small town with a nice lake and adjoining park with lots of activity. A nice place to relax and enjoy the views of the alps.

shormk2, I arrive April 7th and depart April 29th. I'm not opposed to crossing over into Italy or other countries if feasible and there within the regions I'll be visiting in Switzerland. Any suggestions?

Hi darmar97,

I think you'll have a great trip!

I see no need to rent a car for day 15. The train from Freiburg to Bulle takes about 37 minutes; to Gruyeres about an hour.

You can check the train schedules at the Swiss rail site,

www.rail.ch

Have fun!

Thoughts: You could take the train from Lugano to Rome or Venice for a few days and cut out Lucerne and Zug, especially since this is your visit.

My wife and I had 5 days/nights in Lauterbrunnen in May last year and enjoyed every minute. It has to be one of the world's most beautiful places. We found this time to be adequate without repeating our experiences. The cog rail is marvellous and we tried all it's options but it is expensive so check out the multiple day passes. We had 7 weeks in Europe in total and this stay was the highlight.

I think you'll find more to do in Luzern than Stein am Rhein. So, you might wish to make it 3 days in the former, two in the latter. See recent thread on what to do in Luzern for ideas on sights and restaurants.
