20th Wedding Anniversary - Location assistance needed
Hi All
I am looking to plan our 20th wedding anniversary. I am having a hard time deciding on a location. I know that I want to do a catamaran charter, for sure. I just don't know where. We have done the BVI's many times, want something new. I am considering the following areas: Tahiti / French Polynesia Greek Isles Croatia Things that interest us: Nightlife Nightlife Local Bars / Beaches / Dive Bars Amazing Snorkeling Scenery Things that don't interest us: Quiet locations where there is nothing going on Metro / Commercialized beaches/towns We are looking to go either Spring or early summer 2014. Any and all suggestions are welcome! |
Things you'll get in the Greek islands: Nightlife, Local Bars/Beaches/Dive Bars, Scenery
Undersea life is sparse in the Aegean, so snorkeling isn't all that great. As much as I love Greece, Santorini specifically for its amazing and unique beauty (and I know you won't be disappointed there), I suggest you take a look at the Cook Islands as an alternative to French Polynesia. It's more "authentic" in terms of the level of commercialism there, meaning the Cooks are not so mass-marketed. Aitutaki and Rarotonga come to mind for great snorkeling and the laid-back lifestyle. Raro will have more in the way of nightlife. |
Also consider the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, maybe a combination of Port Douglas in Far North Queensland and somewhere like http://www.lizardisland.com.au. A little further south, but still in Queensland, are the Whitsunday Islands, which are great for sailing and also have good snorkelling.: http://www.tourismwhitsundays.com.au. :-)

I just looked into the Cook Islands. Outstanding Suggestion. Thank You! Keeping in mind nightlife and snorkeling, which islands come to your mind? Do you have a suggestion on a catamaran charter company down there? |
I'm positive that Raro has better nightlife. No info about a catamaran charter but I know there are scuba and snorkeling charters so I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a cat.
