2012 Olympics, I Might Compete

Since Nadal has withdrawn from the 2012 Olympics this maybe my first chance to go to the Olympics since they were held in Los Angeles in 1984.

With just a few days free in early August, I might have to put together a racket to make this happen. I have already done some quick research that shows tickets are still available for many events. Even the price of accommodations at Buckingham Palace still seems reasonable.

If you have been to London recently or are planning a trip there for the Olympics would appreciate your input for alternate accommodations, maybe outside of London (if my Buckingham gig does not work out) or other visiting London tips and ideas.

How about Pentonville? You will be a guest of HM there as well. ;-)

I believe there's been a poster here who knows an interesting village only three hours from London.

Don't forget, it's considered only good manners to strike up a conversation on the tube with your fellow-passengers. Because we have a National Health Service, everyone's willing to discuss your ailments with you, or if that doesn't appeal, anyone who's doing the crossword will appreciate your attempts to help them.

I'm interested to see how the beach volley ball is going to work in rain sodden sand. That has got to be painful. Any chance of having a go and telling us?

I hate to disappoint you bilbo, but the forecast is for much warmer and dryer weather.

of course this was all planned in order to ensure that England would look nice and green for all our olympic visitors, and look good on all the TV pics being shown overseas.

annhig, I've listened to forecasts for the last 4 months, normally wrong, I hope it warms up but I know what I expect

Any miseryguts's favourite alternative weather forecaster is predicting general weather mayhem:

well, you can trust any friend of boris's of course!

PatrickLondon,

Can you get Boris to give me the forecast for the first week of August before I lay out my bucks to come there :)

What is the general local reception to the games being held there?

I have been to London many moons ago and think it might still be worth another visit especially with the games going on.

I have registered for tickets but I am surprised there is not a "Will Call Option" to pick them up in London. With a short time span, I am afraid to order them online for an overseas mail delivery.

I am sure I can get tickets to some events once I arrive. However, appreciate your thoughts on tickets.

You may find some friendly gentleman willing to sell you spare tickets; but you also find some other people trying to ensure accommodation for him, also with her Majesty.

The mood, like the temperatures, is now a little warmer than tepid:

I saw on the telly about a cabbie that will let you sleep in his cab for 80 pounds a night - mini fridge included of course! perhaps another poster can provide that contact info.

PatrickLondon,

Maybe the local mood will make it less hectic to attend some events.

Sounds like sellings some tickets on the streets may be a good way to get accommodations courtesy of Her Majesty.

I always wondered what it would be like to stay at Buckingham Palace :)
