2010 Oberammergau, Switzerland, France
In summer of 2010 five women plan to travel to Oberammergau for the Passion Play. Then we would like to drive to Switzerland and then to the eastern edge of France. What would be a good route to take in order to see lovely little villages in each country? We would like to stay on main large roads for the most part and then enter into small villages to visit for lunch and maybe stay the nights. The trip would be about one week long. Any help is appreciated.

Tickets FOR INDIVIDUALS (not in a tour group) HAVE BEEN ON SALE for months....we got ours last year....you might want to check with the friend or check with the Passion play office itself. Folks who actually live in Germany might (or might NOT) have an inside track on this.

We got our tickets directly through the Passion Play office..here's a link to their website:

Don't despair...you can get tickets through any number of tour operators and perhaps even some agencies but many times the tour operators want you to take a whole tour package which includes the passion Play as part of the deal.
You may also still be able to get tickets from the PP office which do not include the required two-night local hotel stay.

Only tickets available at the moment are from tour operators as part of a travel package, or from Passion Play office with local accommodation (1 or 2 nights) included. You pay a big premium for these - even a humble B&B is charging 200 euro per person for one night full board and travel to and from the play, plus the cost of ticket.
Limited number of passion play tickets only without a package are going on sale on 20th April, and if you email the PP office they will email you a booking form in English. Tickets are avilable for most Saturdays, and you specify date (with alternatives) and ticket category, with credit card details - tickets are non-refundable. To give yourself the best chance, avoid school holidays (July/August) and Whitsun holidays and other peak periods.

I think in 2000, twice as many people applied for tickets as they were available - next year, with world recession, nobody knows how much demand there will be for tickets, as a lot of visitors come from English-speaking countries, and high euro has dented demand for European holidays.

>How do you plan to get to Oberammergau?
Fly to Munich, train to Oberammergau with changes in Munich itself and Murnau:

Or rent a car.
