Edie, <BR>You are sure spending a lot of time planning this trip - I am not sure about the price of the rental car - someone else may be able to help on that matter as I never have the need to rent a car here. <BR> <BR>Re the insurance yes you do need it - accuidents on the irish roads are increasing and just you wait and see the roads and the driving ability (or lack of) displayed by the vast majority of drivers here. <BR> <BR>Petrol is about 75 pence per litre (varies up and down a pence or so) at the moment - having shot up in the last few months. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps, <BR> <BR>C <BR>

I paid a little over $230 for a week in Spain last month for a midsize. Insurance is another thing but you really do need it. <BR>

it was either avis or hertz, i have the note somewhere....the other quote was slightly higher and didn't include the phone. <BR>both were for automatic. <BR> <BR>cathy, i have been obsessed with this trip...partly it's just my personality, but also b/c the previous times i was in europe were either on extravagant family trips that my mom planned and my parents paid for...or the total opposite, me and my girlfriends with our eurail passes, let's go europe, and backpacks. <BR>so this is the first trip that i've had full responsibility for, both planning and paying... if that's any explanation.

Recommend you check out Dan Dooley if you have not already confirmed. My wife and I used them last year on our 18 day driveing tour thru Ireland and found them to be very good and with the best rates. They are a local (Irish) Company which also helps. We did the Dublin bit on foot and by bus, picking up the car the morning we departed Dublin. Feel free to email me if you have other questions re: our trip to Ireland.

Ireland was hands down the most expensive place I have ever rented a car. We rented a Nissan Micra - the smallest car I have ever seen and also the insurance - and our bill was about $500 for 10 days. The insurance is expensive, but I recommend it - it's hard driving - we lost a mirror and had some big scratches - we were very thankul for the insurance.....

Your rate sounds pretty good, but does it include insurance? <BR> <BR>Also, gas is between $4 and $5 a gallon. You'll spend $40-$60 filling up the tank, depending on the size of your car.

We also booked with Dan Dooley and found them reliable and staffed with very nice people, they also had competetive rates. As for insurance, you certainly will need it, in fact even if your credit card has a deal in place for insurance, you will most likely need to pay the supliment in Ireland, if you look at the fine print nearly all insurance deals through credit cards are void in Ireland.
