Itinerary Help...First Time in Portugal

I am ending a trip to Spain with 5 nights in Portugal from December 28- Jan. 2. I booked 5 nights in Lisbon( reservation can be changed)so at least I am covered for that period. Should I, or do I have time to go to Porto for 1 or 2 nights or should I spend 5 nights in Lisbon and take day trips...Sintra and surrounding areas ( suggestions welcome). If anyone who lives in Portugal or traveled there could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Post 1:Nights are short so stay where you are. The least amount of travelling the more you will end up seeing.

Post 2: There is a lot of advise previously given in the section covering Portugal. Like this TR.

or this one:

or even this advise.

Please note that if you want to do any celebrating on NYE you'll need to make reservations well in advance. Also, most restaurants will be closed on NY Day, Since Lisbon is larger, you'll probably be better off spending your time there.

Stay in Lisbon and do day trips, the train system is pretty good so I'd plan around that. http://cp.pt/cp/displayPage.do?vgnex...c0RCRD&lang=en needs a bit of getting used to but after a bit of digging it will help. You may find seat61.com useful as background for the train system
