2 weeks in Rome please Help!!!
 

Hello all! Me and my girlfriend will be spending about 2 weeks in Rome .We already have our flight and hotel booked. We will be staying at the Hotel California near termini station. From what I've read it's supposed to be a very nice location. My question is, has anyone ever been to this hotel? Is the location really that nice? I want to spend a good safe two weeks there, we are both 23 years old and what to know what areas we should go to or which areas we should avoid. I'm really trying to stay out of trouble since I am a member of the U.S armed forces. Can anyone give me some great advice on what to do or go? we both like to go to bars, and have fun. Love to try new foods and love scenery locations. Thank you so much for those who can help!

The location of the Hotel California is a modern, charmless, busy-with-traffic part of the city. I would never describe it as "very nice." I would probably not even describe it as "nice." I might describe it as "adequate" or "convenient." Some of the streets near the train station are a bit seedy, though the block for the hotel is not as bad as that. Just relatively charmless.

However, the location does have good connections to the bus and metro systems, and is a good location if you are planning to take a number of day trips out of Rome by train. This location is not one I would choose if staying in Rome for two weeks. I might chose this location if I were staying for a night or two and needed to get in and out of town quickly.

I would find an apartment in a more central location if I were staying two weeks.

There are better locations for you if you have the flexibility.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I hear a lot of people say to stay in a more central area, where would that be? I've never been to Italy so I have no idea where would be the best place to just leave my hotel and have places to shop, eat or drink. That's really what I'm looking forward to. That's one reason I picked hotel California was because it was said to have many places to eat and pubs.

Unfortunately I've already tried to get apartments but since I'm staying for so long it's harder for me to get a place. Many places are already booked a few days during my stay...

Very nice area adjacent to Piazza di Spagna. I have stayed here a few times. Lovely.

You should also look at hotels/b&bs/apts in Trastevere. Just across the river from the city center, and has lots of bars and restaurants. A lot of university students live there, so a lot to do and places open for food and drinks.

I agree with ellenem's comments on Hotel California's location. It would be near the <b>bottom</b> of my list of neighborhoods to stay in.

The more central area would be near the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Campo dei Fiori.
