2 Weeks in Provence-Help with Itinerary
My wife and I will be visiting Provence for 16 days this summer and I am trying to put together an itinerary so any help would be appreciated. At this point I am thinking the following:
2 nights in Nice 1 night in Moustiers Ste. Marie 2 nights in Roussilon 2 nights in Vaison-la-Romaine 3 nights in Avignon 2 nights in Arles 1 night in Aix 2 nights in Cassis 1 night in Nice I am not sure if this is too much moving around or if we should consolidate some of the stops ie. do 4 nights in Roussilon and not stay overnight in Vaison-la-Romaine or stay 5 nights in St. Remy and do Avignon and Arles as day trips. I am not sure about driving times between places. Also, are any towns better places to stay overnight than the ones I have listed? I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks. |

Yes it is. I'd suggest three locales for 5 days each: Upper Vaucluse (Vaison-la-Romaine area), Lower Vaucluse (Roussilon area) and Bouches du Rhône (Arles area). You can readily reach all the highlights by day trips. |
I agree with TuckH.

If you want to "taste" all the regions in your plan, here is what I would do:
3 nights in Nice (visit St Paul, etc) 1 night in Moustiers 3 nights in Roussillon 3 nights near Vaison (not sure I would stay IN Vaison) 3 nights in Arles or St Remy 1 night in Aix - or visit it on the way to Cassis (make sure you're not there on a Sun or Mon) 1 night in Cassis if you stayed overnight in Aix, 2 nights if you didn't stay in Aix 1 night in Nice Stu Dudley |
I also agree with TuckH. I would also consider renting a gite for a week in one area and another for the second week. This is usually a cheaper, more comfortable way to stay than hotels or B&B's. You could then take day trips and avoid all the hassel of changing places so frequently.

Definately too much moving around. Put some of the destinations into Michelin route planner and see how close many of these places are. Avignon, Arles and Aix are not really that far apart and neither is Cassis. You need to rethink your stays. I know it is tempting to try and "taste" lots of different accommodation but you will be spending all your time packing and moving around. I like the idea of staying somewhere for a week and doing day trips. It will be good for you to go "home" at the end of the day. A little more research is needed richking. Good luck. Schnauzer
