2 Weeks in Holland

I'm in the planning stage for my next 2 week holiday in September 2012 and I was thinking about Holland..what do you think? I went to some central EU countries and I think that Holland is different even the building. Is it doable in 2 weeks using trains and buses? I will fly into Amsterdam and make 3 bases, and make day trips from there...the last base has to be Amsterdam as I will fly back from there...any idea?

You could spend some of your time in Maastricht and surrounds, and maybe head for Leeuwarden or Groningen for somewhere different, or even to on of the islands for a couple of days.

Limiting yourself to public transport will mean you miss out on some delightful villages, and countryside, which just aren't well served by buses. If you could afford a to rent a car for a few days you could get a lot more out of your trip.

If you are prepared for more than three bases then there are plenty of places to fill your 2 weeks.

All..so I will be planning to go to the Netherlands. I will be working around these bases..4 nights Croningen, 5 nights Maastricht and 5 nights Amsterdam. Should I remove 1 night from Maastricht and add it to Amsterdam?

I would add a night to Amsterdam because there are so many good daytrips from there - The Hague, Leiden, Utrecht, Delft and no doubt others I haven't visited yet.

Trains and buses AND bicycles, yes.

From Maastricht take a bus over to Aachen for a day. It's just over the river but the train doesn't toot very well between those cities. A great day trip from Amsterdam is Haarlem, under 20 minutes by train.
