Sharbear,
Just saw your report! perfect timing, since we are going to Paris for the 1st time this summer. When you say you woke up early to go to Versailles, exactly what time did you wake up & what time was it when you got there? what does the Paris Museum Pass cost? How long did you spend at the Louvre? I've also been reading your current Barcelona posts! |
Oh just realized I should've answered over here - you even told me you posted it here, and I meant to answer here...well I'll re-post for those who want to see:
HI Kwoo - Ok let me think. I know it was the earliest we woke up on our trip, I think we were up around 7 am, but I can't remember exactly what time we got to Versailles...by 10 maybe? I remember thinking it was good timing bc we seemed to beat some of the crowds. I'm sorry I don't remember more exactly. I do remember that we got on the wrong train though, so you might want to read up on that a bit more than we did... The museum pass was worth it for us I think, especially because it allowed us to skip lines (although not at the Musee d'Orsay). I did all the calculations back then on how many you needed to see to make it worth it but now I don't remember..my husband, who pays more attention to those things, remembers it as a good deal. And there was more we could have done that we didn't do... |
Thanks, sharbear, for your response. Another question: I notice you went to the opera. What did you wear? The reason I ask is that there will be two of us, (me & my husband) for the week in Paris, but we can only bring 1 large suitcase & 1 carry-on. This is because during the 2nd week, we are meeting up with my daughter & her boyfriend; we will be driving in his car & spending 3 nights in the Loire Valley, then 3 nights with his parents. Therefore, we can only fit 1 large & 1 carry-on in his car, in addition to their suitcases. So I have to pack light, which I admit I am not used to doing. We will be in Paris late July/early Aug. Might like to see the opera & would want to wear something nicer than shorts :-)
Regarding the Louvre, is the "carousel" entrance in the back of the Louvre? Your Paris trip report is very helpful. Hope you are enjoying Barcelona as much as we did! Thanks! |
Hi Kwoo - We dressed up for the opera because we like to dress up. I had one dress with me for our whole trip (we were trying to pack light too), and that's what I wore. From what I can remember, I think you would be fine in nice pants but I would probably avoid jeans (or shorts:) Also just so you know, because we didn't, but the Opera we got tickets to was in the building in Bastille place, which is a very new building, it is not the old Opera House (I forget the name).
The Carousel entrance...I don't remember, but we went underground through a kind of shopping mall to get there, that much I do recall. I'm glad you are finding it helpful - we will be back in Paris starting next week, for a month, so expect a lot more!! We are loving Barcelona, although right now we are in Marrakesh for a few days and loving it here as well. |
Hi Sharbear84,
Thank you! and I am looking forward to your upcoming Paris reports! |
Thanks so much for writing all this - I am going to be staying quite close to your apt during the summer so this is a real treat! I am making notes on all the restaurants and cafes! Enjoy!I haven't read through all of it yet but I did notice as I skimmed down there is a trip to Versailles! Keep it up - really enjoying this.
