2 weeks in Barcelona
We are traveling in late June-July to Barcelona. we are staying with friends so there will be a significant amount of time spent socializing with them and their friends and family some of whom we have met. We also have another friend who will be traveling to Vilanueva i la Geltru towards the middle of our stay. It is an hour away from Barcelona and I am considering scooting down there to see them.
I have read the guide books and now the usual suspects: Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, etc. What else would you recommend? The museum of Salvador Dali is nearby in Figueres. Is it worth the haul with a 6.5 year old? We will definitely visit the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. We are hoping to get out to Costa Brava, since it will be hot. Our friends have a vacation apartment there but I think they rent it out. I haven't asked them directly to rent it to us yet. What am I missing? And of course, what should I pack? |

Thanks Adrienne. Isn't Palau Guell the same as Park Guell? Just asking.

Hi! Palau Guell is a building near the Ramblas, from Gaudí. Park Guell is a big park from Gaudí in the nord of the city

Montjuic (The Jewish mountain) is very well worth some hours exploring; The castle, the history, the views of the city and the sea, the olympic arenas, the museums, the theaters etc. etc.
Take the cable car up to the Montjuic Castle, magnificent views: http://www.tmb.cat/en/teleferic-de-montjuic The Castle: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Engl...5oCcjlP8pbDIVA Theaters, museums and olympic arenas around every corner up at adventurous Montjuic: http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/Parc...docdW4LHetpKP8 I can recommend La Font del Gat for a meal, a bite or a cup/glass of something in open air. Close to the MNAC, the Olimpic stadium, many of the museums and the Mercat de les Flors theaters: http://www.lafontdelgat.com/ For a genuine Barcelona lunch (from about 2pm), I can higly recommend La Perla some three hundred meters from La Font del Gat, down towards the small, local feel and bustling Poble Sec district. Stumbled in here to a great food experience some months ago ((only open for lunch, until about 5pm): http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Catalonia.html Poble Sec is at the foot of Montjuic. Full of cafés, restaurants and tapas bars and not full of tourists. http://www.way2barcelona.com/travel-...t-of-montjuic/ |
Wow, marigross, kimhe, and Barcino, thank you all!
