2 weeks in april - suggestions??
 

We are planning to go to Italy for 16 days in April (without a car). So far we have reservations for 4 nights in Rome, 3 nights in Florence, and 3 nights in Venice. After this we have 6 days to spend on north of Italy, since we fly back from Milan.
Any suggestions on how to make the best out of it? Thanks.

The flowering shrubs on Lake Como will be blooming in the later part of April. You would be relatively close to Milan's Malpensa for your flight home.

When you are in Florence, rent a car for at least one day and drive through Tuscany. You must see Pisa, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano. It is beautiful driving through Tuscany. I personally would add another night in Tuscany.

From Venice, drive to Verona, see Verona, and stay at Lake Garda. The northern section of Lake Garda is breathtakingly scenic. Stay overnight at Lake Garda (Bardolino, Sirmione, Gardone or Limone).

See also Lake Como (scenery) and Lago Maggiore (boat trip to Isola Bella). Stay overnight at Lago Maggiore(Baveno or Stresa). See Milan (daytrip from Lago Maggiore) and fly home.

I think you should add more time in the cities you already plan to visit.
If that is not possible, add Verona and Milan, OR Verona and a town on either Lake Como (Como or Varenna??) or Lake Maggiore with easy access to Malpensa by public transport.

Vincenzo is a lovely town to stay a night or 2 in. We going to Verona in the Spring and it sounds really nice. Or u might consider going to Bologna which is another terrific town with fabulous food. From Bologna u could do a day trip to Ravenna and see the fantastic mosaics.

U could stop in Bologna for a couple days on the way from Florence To Venice. From Venice you could take the train to either Verona or Vincenzo and stay at one of the them and visit the other. That would add 6 wonderful days to your trip.

Thank you all for your help and for all of your ideas. I guess I need to mention this: the first leg of this trip (Rome-Florence-Venice) our family of 3 (daughter is 10 yrs old) is taking together with another family of 3 (their boy is also 10 yrs old); on the second leg of the trip it's our family only.
So, any suggestions on what to do and what to see? Also, specifically north of Italy between Venice and Milan: any ideas on Verona, Padua(Padova), Lake Garda, may be one or two day-long field trips to other places in Lombardy?
