2 week itinerary for Switzerland, N Italy, S France
Does anyone have the time or inclination to suggest an itinerary in and out of Zurich that might include northern Italy (not Venice) and the south/east of France back to Zurich?
We're locked in to Oct 19-Nov 2 for this trip.
We're thinking of driving rather than trains.
We'd love some suggestions of favorite stops and hotelsbefore tackling the itinerary on our own.
Thank you so much.

Sure--here is a start:
Arrive Zurich--train to Luzern from station
Luzern ---3 nites total
Train to Lugano --get car--to Menaggio on Lago Como---2 nites
Drive to Piemonte wine country---stay in rural B&B near Asti or Alba---3 nites
Drive to Menton via Cuneo---explore French riviera---3 nites
Get back to Zurich via free lance for last nite---your call on route
Good luck. I do not like the time of year--can be rainy and chilly. Holler if you need hotel options.

Agree with Bob about the weather - our trip to Switzerland/Austria/Germany ten years ago was pretty much the same time period and we saw the sun twice in 16 days. But if you're locked in, just be prepared with layers/rain gear and have fun!

We've booked Des Alpes for Luzern for our first nights.
If the weather is rainy or if visibility is low, we would like the flexibility to save the rest of Switzerland for another trip, and head on down to Italy or over to France. So, we'll probably book the rest of the hotels after we get there. I would imagine that time of year we would not have a problem booking a couple of days ahead.
It will be great to have recommendations all set for those areas, though,
So...please keep itinerary and hotel suggestions coming for N Italy and S and E France!
(I suppose I should post this with those tags!)
Thanks again.
