2 week holiday in nothern Spain

Hi My husband, myself and our 15 year old daughter are flying to Barcelona on July 10 and flying out on the 24th. My daughter is in 'French immersion student so we would like a couple of days in Southern France. We like to bike and hike. We were thinking of renting a car, going to the Pyrenees and perhaps the Roja area. Is this to much? Does anyone have some suggestions of a possible itinerary? I do not know the area.

Thanks for your help.

To be honest La Rijoa region is not a convenient location if you wish to head for France, so maybe this visit you should give it a miss.
If you want bike and cycle routes than you should look at teh following website as it has both and comes with downloadable routes too.
http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/home.do?locale=en
Just search the area you wish to visit ie Pyrenees, and it comes up with a lot of information both in Spain and France.

Thank you for the excellent website. It is an excellent source of information and I was not aware of it.

a_martin,
Perhaps you have seen the earlier thread "Pyrenees town as a base?"
Ainsa is a nice place to stay in Pyrenees. It has very good connections to the valleys with interesting walking routes. The Faja routes in the Valley of Ordesa were our favourites.
Also the topwalks.net is offering you GPS waypoints for the routes as well as maps, driving instructions, route descriptions in English and a lot of photographs.

Thank you for the link to the walks (it also has some excellent information) and the information on Ainsa. Do you know of a good palce on the French side of the Pryrenees for a base? We hope to spend a couple of days in France to practice our French!!!

Anette, sorry i cannot answer your question about France. I would suggest you post a new question in the French section. Maybe with a link back to this posting to help other responders

Anette,
Actually you can live in Aragnouet in France as well. The road A-138 leads from Ainsa and Bielsa to France through a tunnel (Tunel de Bielsa).
See the road map: http://www.topwalks.net/en/valle_pineta.htm
Aragnouet is the closest town in France. From Aragnouet you have a good access to routes in the valleys of Pineta, Real, Tella and Chistau.
In August and late July there is a lot of traffic in the tunnel of Bielsa, but we only experienced traffic jams some 2-3 kilometres to the north of Ainsa. Even then it was easy to get out of Ainsa, but driving A-138 south to Ainsa was slow.

Thank you Aragnouet in France looks like a great option.
