2 single guys would love some help deciding between Croatia (Dubrovnik and Split) and Sardinia/Capri

My friend and I are going to Europe in late August and would like to relax on some beautiful beaches and meet some interesting people. We would also like to enjoy some great nightlife (but want to avoid an Ibiza-like out-of-control scene). We would love some thoughts on deciding between Croatia's coast (and possbily Hvar) or a trip to Sardinia and Capri. I hear they are both great experiences, but very different. Any thoughts?

I believe that Sardinia and Capri are much more upscale, and therefore, much more $$$.

Thanks, you've confirmed what we've heard about Sardinia and Capri. We don't necessarily mind the extra cost, but are trying to avoid the snobby tourists that tend to come along with the cost (which is why we decided against the South of France or Marbella). Take care.

I think Hvar and Dubrovnik would be good choices for you. I'd combine both as both have lovely beaches, lively nightlife (you'll love Hvar - Carpe Diem bar is a must), great scenery and many travellers from all over (from backpackers to expensive yachts crowd).

The Costa Smeralda is absolutely sublime, as is Capri, comparing Croatia and Italy is a little like comparing a pair of shoes from Clarks and a pair of Blahniks!

As for " snobby tourists " you're obviously too easily intimidated, walk around as if you own the place, that overcomes that one.

I'd never touch Croatia if I was offered Italy, have the best my dear, you'll love it.

For heaven's sake, don't listen to m-kingdom2!

His/her only criterion for choosing anything or any place is snob appeal. You do not want to fall into that trap!

There are many people who given the choice of Croatia and Italy, would choose Italy...that's why there are fewer tourists in Croatia. Not necessarily a bad thing!

I loved Split, Dubrovnik and Hvar, although I don't recall seeing the best beaches in any of them (doesn't mean there aren't any though). For a couple of single guys, I will tell you something you may be interested in...

Croatia had some of the most beautiful women I had seen in Europe.

Good stuff. Thanks everyone. And yes, we'd prefer women. The funny thing is a few women we know told us to avoid Sardinia because there are too many good looking Italian guys to compete with. We told them that our personalities would go a long way. They laughed and said "not if you don't speak Italian!" Very funny. Anyhow, your thoughts are much appreciated.
