Lodging recommendations for Chinon and Ambroise

Can you recommend lodging for Chinon and Ambroise or thereabouts. We don't really need luxury but rather clean, comfortable, and good breakfast. Thank you!

Amboise that is right?

For a unique stay try a troglodyte house - cave house and one of many in area- just Google troglodyte houses Amboise - some on outskirets would be good for motorists.

Or, how about a chateau?
the Chateau de Pray within walking distance of center of Amboise and the chateau:

If you'd like a less touristed smaller town nearby try Onzain on other side of Loire from Amboise - rather ordinary French town.

those sites are great but also to get the first-person experience from Fodorites - TripAdvisor will have many more.

Trip advisor is not rhe best source for reviews as the site is notorious for fake reviews. On booking.com only those that actually stay in the featured hotels etc. are allowed to post their opinions

For Amboise have a look at Les Fleurons. Every room has a view of the river or the castle ramparts. Rooms are beautifully appointed and larger than one normally sees in European hotels and B& B's.

I use Trip Advisor. You can tell fake reviews fairly easily. Look at the Destination Forums too (different from the Reviews section, set up more like the discussions here on Fodor's).

Some 4 years ago we stayed about 4 KM east of Chinon at Domaine de Givré, a very nice B & B with plenty of privacy and very relaxing. We'd return in a heartbeat if ever in that region again.

Chinon, we stayed at the Style Ibis, never ending breakfast, the pool is small but ok, the prices are low and for a few pennies more you can book the rooms with views of the town. All clean and simple. Walk into town is about 15 minutes. Car 5 minutes

In 2011 we had a very enjoyable 4 night stay in the Catherine de Medici room at the Manoir Saint Thomas in Amboise. The hotel's location was good for us and Amboise was easy to drive in and out of. Breakfast was good but not American (no bacon and eggs). They have free parking and a pool that our granddaughter liked. The staff was friendly and helpful. For more details about our visit to the Loire Valley you can check out my trip report. We had a great time.

I have stayed in both locations while exploring the Loire Valley and would highly recommend La Closerie Saint Martin in Ligre, about 5km from Chinon. It's located in a small quiet hamlet. https://www.lacloseriesaintmartin.fr/en/
Rates are very reasonable and include a lovely breakfast. The proprietors are a young Swiss couple who are wonderful hosts, providing lots of information as well as a tour of wine cellar and delicious three course evening meals.
