#2 Paris for my 50th Birthday
Now, I'm not totally overwhelmed, but...
Anyone have contact info for Hotel Grandes Ecoles near the Place Contrescarpe. I have narrowed it down to Latin Quarter & Marais.
Do you think the Marais is a walk around area
in the evening. You have no idea how much I've appreciated all the help you all have given me. I am very grateful and excited.
I have dreamed of going to Paris all my life.
Thank You.

I don't have Grandes Ecoles info; bet someone will be happy to pass that on tho. I can, however, offer some insight into the Marais area. Yes, it is an incredibly safe area to walk around in at night. I stayed there last April for a week and loved it. Lots of cafes, fun shops, great restaurants, people buzzing about. I felt very safe, even after Midnight occasionally. I find it a bit more progressive than the 5th/6th, so it depends on your personality.
I stayed at the Grand Hotel Jeanne D'Arc, which got a big thumbs up from Fodor's, Lonely Planet, and others on this board. It's a 2**, at about $65 for a super quiet, clean room w/bath. Super friendly & helpful staff. If you can afford more I'd go with St. Paul Marais, or Caron de Beaumarchais.
BTW, I'm spending the week of my 40th birthday in Italy, then a week in Paris! Have fun & Happy Birthday!
