2 or 3 nights in Paris with a 2-year-old

We need a place to stay in Paris at the end of September for 3 adults and a two-year old. Would prefer central, near metro with neighborhood restaurants close by. A 2-bedroom apartment would be perfect but most want to rent for a week. A 2-bedroom hotel suite would also work.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi S,

I'm assuming you're talking about next year, 2009 since we're already in September, 2008.

Since you have nearly a year to plan, I'm sure there will be many sugestions.

Unfortunately, I mean this year so we have very little time to plan. This trip just presented itself and we couldn't pass it up.

Hi Swallace

Have you tried vacationinparis.com? They often do shorter rentals, but with a surcharge for less than a week. They have some specials as well, mostly places that are still available and owners want to get rented. I would suggest staying in 4th-7th arrondissments. Often apartments have bedroom and a pullout couch. I bought a cool thing for my 22 month old son called a Peapod (from Amazon). Cool little portable bed for little ones to about age five or so, actually a tent that pops open and has sleeping bag/ blowup mattress - red or pink is larger than teal. My son sleeps well in it when we travel. I hear buses are more stroller-friendly than subways. I've been to Paris, and Metro has lots of stairs and long hallways.

Bon Voyage!

Thanks, Sunnyshine. I will be in contact with them this morning. Thanks, too, for the Peapod suggestion.

Everything is booked for your dates? Wow! Did you ask for a certain size of apartment? Perhaps you could get a smaller size and make do for a few days? I'm just going on the assumption you might have asked for a two bedroom. We took our teenage daughter and she slept on the sofabed in a one-bedroom place.

I've not stayed in hotels, perhaps you can search for hotels and Paris on this board -- I've seen lots of recommendations.

We are thinking about a last minute trip to Paris for our 25th anniversary the first week of October. I hope there is something available if I get plane tickets!

Oh, many ppl have rented from vrbo.com

First of all, Happy Anniversary, and I wish for you many more.

Yes, VRBO was one of the first places I tried.

What we wanted was a two-bedroom apartment but have been unsuccessful in that venture.

I'm traveling with our son, his wife and their two-year old. That is why we need two bedrooms or two rooms in a hotel.

I hope you have better luck for your October stay.

Sept-October is the peak hotel season in Paris due to a lot of business, trade shows, etc., and is also a fairly popular tourist period. So hotels get booked up months ahead of time. Now I wouldn't think apartments would be quite the same as a lot of business people wouldn't be staying in them, but most people book their vacation rental apartments pretty far in advance, also. I just booked one for end of Sept in Paris, but that was finalized at the end of July and I was having a little trouble finding what I wanted at that date. I may be pickier than you, however, but the problem is 2 BR vacation rental apartments are not as common as 1 BR/studios to begin with, so this will be difficult.

Hardly anything will rent for 2 nights, and 3 nights is rare, also, but not quite as bad. I have seen a very few websites that will rent for 3 nights.

well, good luck with that. I don't know how you will like this agency, it's a French agency, but they speak English very well if you don't know French (at least the office people). YOu are actually renting from teh owner, though, the agency is only a go-between in this case, but they do have a good website and you can search by dates and other things pretty well. I was pleased with the one I rented (so far, haven't been there but the owner was very efficient and businesslike).

www.lodgis.fr

They do have a few 2 BRs available for end of September, actually, and some will rent for 3 days. As a tip, when you look at the listing, if it only lists a rental price for the week, it will probably have a one week minimum.

These are available and are 2 BRs:

4102915 and 3105241, both in the 10th arr.

3168117 looks okay but is out near Porte Maillot which isn't central

several in the 6th, very central (3065935, 3065938, 3065939, 3065986), and probably the same owner. They are definitely not cheap, however, at 525-581 euro per day.

There are forms, leases, insurance, etc. issues to get through with lodgis.

www.franceforrent.com has some "last minute" specials, at least you know they are vacant. Of course, that bargain may cost you $800 a day. Not sure if they will rent for only a few days, I don't think so, but since these aren't rented, you could try as they do list a per diem rate. It may be a waste of time, however. At least on the Lodgis site you know they will if it says so.

Swallace - If your only option is a hotel with connecting rooms try:

Best Western Hotel Nouvel Orleans, 25 Ave. du General Leclerc, 7514.
Tel: 33-01-43 27 80 20
Fax: 33-01-43 35 36 57

email: [email protected]
They may just be able to accommodate you!

The metro is right outside the entrance.(Mouton Duvernet).
Diagonally across the road is another Rue Cler look-a-like in the form of Rue Daguerre boasting cafes & restaurants. The area has a village feel with a post office & supermarkets.

If that fails you could ask the Ibis Hotel chain.

Although I've not stayed in the property mentioned (by tod), we have had excellent luck renting through Best Western while in Europe. The properties over there, are nothing like in the States. I'd look at thier website, they have some great locations.

The Hotel Palais Bourbon, a nice two star in a good spot in the 7th is showing rooms for four at the end of September. It really isn't bad, and there is a small elevator. I think you may be able to get rooms that join, or 1 large room.

Here's a link for the family room at Hotel Palais Bourbon.

I'm not pushing this, but we liked the location so well that we tried a hotel across the street on the next trip to Paris.

You might also try rentparis.com. I don't know if they will do three nights, but they are very good to work with. We are renting our second time with them this coming Feb.
