2 nights in Paris
 

I know it sounds crazy but thats all they have.
Need info for trip in and out of airport, close hotel to some sights.
My friends are going for the first time and are having problems for reasonable cost and only two nights.

What is their budget and when are they going?

Are they someone who will be willing to spring for taxi to/from airport, or someone who prefer the RER (economic way)?

Any hotels in the 1st through 8th arrondissment will be close enough for the usual tourist sights.

Hire a tour guide, around 100 euros and worth it. I went and saw tons of sites for one day. It was a long day but well worth it.

They are going last week in September, not a big budget but with such little time is the tour guide the way to go or the hop on off buses.
It is a real problem just getting 2 nights in so many hotel!

It's difficult to answer that question on such slim information. Some people like to "see the sites", also known as putting a check mark next to each item on their list. They would take the hop-on bus. They will see all the major landmarks, but they won't "experience" Paris. Others may not see as many sites, but still prefer just walking around and absorbing the ambience of a place. Or lingering over coffee or wine at a sidewalk cafe. Are museums important to them? Have they gotten any guidebooks from their library?

You still haven't said what their hotel budget is. Here's a relatively inexpensive hotel, especially for its fabulous location. It's a stone's throw from the Seine and Notre Dame. I've stayed there several times. It's a nice hotel, but my favorite thing is walking out the front door to see the cathedral right across the river. Great area for nighttime strolling. I believe a double is still around 150 euros/night.

Thanks everyone. My friend in Adelaide Australia and I in Perth (opposite sides of the country) are ringing each other at the moment with some of your suggestions. We are just trying Hotel de Notre Dame at moment. Some bargain sights have it at 100E but we are yet to see if available. They are on a tight budget so 130e would be tops. It just seems better due to lack of time to get close to everything. Also lack of experience traveling direct routes in and out of airport handy.
They are doing Croatia and Scotland this is on way home for a quick look

I don't think you'll get the Hotel de ND at 130 euros for September so don't spend any more time on that.

Do a search in the window above for &quot;Paris and budget&quot;. There have been many threads about low budget hotels.

For 2 days, I don't think it is worth it to try to do too much. The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre and a cruise on the Seine would probably be more than enough for most people in two days, along with hours and hours of aimless but charming walking.

There are a lot of bargain hotels near any of the main line train stations, and the metro and bus connections from the stations are all excellent except maybe for Austerlitz.

Try Hotel Grande Ecoles in the Latin Quarter area.

Yup, H&ocirc;tel de France, 102 Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg in the 7&egrave;me. Around 80 euro for a double. No AC, but they'll probably be fine in September.

St Cirq, have you checked the rates lately for HdF? They've gone up (although you may still be getting a better rate as a repeat customer).

We always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 131E dbl w/bkfst. It is located near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.

A shuttle van will be about 18E pp. I think that it would be worth the extra cost. The hotel can arrange pickup and delivery with their very reliable service - cash only.

Hotel de France's rates did increase. I remember they were less than 100 euro/double not too long ago.

We stayed at the Michelet Odeon a few years ago but didn't like it. Room we had did have a good view, felt very cold even with the heating on. It was also during the end of their remodeling so the atmosphere wasn't that great with workmen in the hallways painting and fixing things. It is in an excellent location though.
