2 Nights in Montepulciano
 

On my travels through Tuscany we will be staying in Montepulciano for 2 nights any suggestions on what might be a MUST SEE????

You can discover the "must see" sights from any guide book. If you told us some specific information about your personal interests (art, shopping, hiking, architecture, slow pace, fast pace, museums . . .) in your many posts about different Italian towns, we could offer you better guidance. Your "must see" is probably not mine, nor the next person's. What were you hoping to experience in Montepulciano?

You do not say when nor if you will have a car.

I have never been called “ BOB THE FOODIE” , but here are some of the best places to eat in Tuscany based on feedback from many of my clients. Reservations are suggested for most!

Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco $$ Across the river & very good.
La Giostra $$$ Excellent, but you must book in advance

SIENA:
Osteria Le Logge $$ Great place for lunch and near Il Campo
Cane e Gato $$$ A fixed price & menu for a true feast—allow 4 hours

LUCCA:
Buca di San Antonio $$ Best in town and near San Michele
Il Giglio $$ In the piazza of the same name---favorite with locals

SAN GIMIGNANO:
Il Pino $$ Very good typical Tuscan fare
Le Vecchie Mura $ Good value for a tourist town

MONTALCINO:
Taverna Grappolo Blu $ Popular with locals as well.
Ristorante Poggio Antico $$ Excellent cuisine 5km south of town at winery location
Enoteca Osteria Osticcio $ Best wine tasting & small meals in town

MONTEPULCIANO:
La Grotta $$ Near San Biagio church & very good
Café Poliziano $ Great place for lunch on shopping street

PIENZA: Latte du Luna $$ Best choice in this charming village

BAGNO VIGNONI: Osteria del Leone $ Good lunch choice in this spa hamlet

MONTICCHIELLO: La Porta $ Charming place with outside terrace

SAN QUIRICO: Trattoria al Vecchio Forno $ Good food & fair value

I see you are two nights in San Gimignano, also. (See my comment on that thread.) Are you sure you want to move around so much? Remember how much of your time it takes to pack up and move on, etc.

We are with another couple and we will be traveling for 2 weeks by car all over Italy. 3 nights Rome, 4 nights Positano, 1 night Orviato, 2 Montupuciano, 2 SG than off the Milan for the flight home. We are pretty experienced travelers so we are traveling very light so picking up and moving will be easy. And having a car will also make it easy. We don't really like tours to much but prefer to visit the tourist places at our own pace. We would love to see the winerys and the beautifut country side. We love sitting in quaint towns where the locals would go and enjoy some nice wine and food. Shopping is not top of our list but someplace that has things of interest to the area would deffinetly interest us. So Restaurants etc would be great.

You have chosen very touristy towns as opposed to "where the locals would go". Of the places on your list, Orvieto had the fewest tourists but even that is getting very popular.

You should not rent a car for Rome as it will be more of a hindrance.

When visiting wineries, be very careful to have a designated driver as drinking and driving are taken quite seriously in Italy and the threshold is lower than in the US. You have to have advance reservations in the smaller and more special wineries, you cannot just pop in for a visit. There are a few Mondavi sized wineries on the tour bus circuit that do not require reservations.

If you are landing in Rome, I would spend 4 nights and visit Orvieto as a day trip then pick up your car and head to your next stop.

I would base in Montepuliciano (or elsewhere in Tuscany depending on your interests) and make daytrips from there as opposed to 2 nights there and two in SG.

We all have different interests so that is quite hard to answer as your requests are very vague.
