2 nights in Croatia
A group of us are planning to spend 2 nights/3 days in Croatia in late May and we are debating where to stay.. we were thinking one night on Hvar and one on Split.. any suggestions?
|
Where would you be traveling from, and how are you getting to Croatia? Why only 2 days? I ask because it's not a very easy country to get to for most folks, so two days may not merit the effort.

Think Dubrovnik. It would be a very special--if not magical--experience. The walled town is small and two nights would be about right. Like issy said, Croatia can be difficult to get to. But you if can fly into and out of Dubrovnik, you won't regret it.

thanks for the replys - we are going to be taking the overnight ferry to/from Ancona Italy. It arrives in Split at 7am and leaves at 11pm so we will get 3 full days and two nights. We were planning to spend a day in Dubrovnik but are unsure where to actually plan to stay for the nights. A few people have suggested the islands but don't know which one would be best

Perhaps with such limited time you may wish to consider the Brela Makarska area as a stop over between Split and Dubrovnik instead of travelling to the islands. This area is rather quaint and easily reachable by bus from Split as a stop off on the way to Dubrovnik. Personally we found Split to be one of the least inspiring towns in Croatia (other than a walk around the palace)but it depends on what you are looking for. We spent 3 nights in Makarska one day catching the bus back to Brela and walking the beach from there to Baska Voda. We really enjoyed the walk and the scenery. Hope you have fun regardless of what you decide.

Do not bother unless you have more time. You cannot so it all in one trip.

Racegirl-
I noticed your other thread with your proposed itinerary. I agree with Bob, you really should save Croatia for another trip. My advise would be to just focus in on a few key places in Italy. You won't regret it. Have a great time! |
I do agree that I would skip Croatia for this trip, but if you do decide to visit anyhow I would suggest spending all of your time in Dubrovnik. Its a beautiful town and spending all of your time in one place would allow for a more relaxed, enjoyable experience. We drove up the Croatian coast and Dubrovnik was, by far, our favorite.

I would plead with you not to go...save it for some time when you can afford more time. I agree with TC above, though...if it's just a few days, Dubrovnik should be your target..it's nothing short of magical. Stu T. |
