2 hotels in Venice, 1 in Rome - need advice

Anyone stay at the Principe or Carlton Exec? Where are they located, etc. I can't find these on Fodors, Frommers or charmingvenice.com which makes me nervous, though Im told they are 4 star.

Good evening, Mimi
Have stayed at the Carlton Executive
a number of years ago, it is located
on the opposite side of the Grand Canal
across from the Venice SL RR station.
Was being remodeled at the time from the
old Germania. Vaporetto stops are just
across the Ponte degli Scalisi in front
of the Station.
Have not stayed at the Principe, however
it is located on the Lista di Spagna
which begins about a block east of the
station and runs east to the Canale
di Cannaregio, it also faces the Grand Canal, rather some of its rooms do..

I also would like to hear from anyone about Hotel Principe in Venice where I am booked in mid September. There web page is www.gardenahotels.it which also operates Hotel Amadeus and Hotel Gardena in Venice. Anyone have any experiences with these Venice hotels?

In Venice we stayed at an apartment and it worked out great. It was right across from the Scala Bovolo and about 5 blocks (if they have those in Venice) from San Marco plaza. About 2 blocks from the Rialto Bridge and the big open market. Wonderful... Even ate dinner in our jammies one night.
