2 Days in Tarragona...what to do ?

We are leaving Girona tomorrow morning by car. We have two full Day for Terragona. We have to catch a flight to Porto monday morning (we have reserved a night in Molins de Rei sunday).

We want to see Tarragona(romans remains and aqueduct). We want to add somthing to that visit.

Where else should we go ? Vic ? Montblanc? Poblet ? Anything else ?

Thanks !

Montblanc and Poblet are fairly close to Tarragona. Vic is not. I think you could find plenty to do in Tarragona in 1.5 days, however (I'm not counting the time it will take to get down from Girona.) Besides all the Roman stuff there is also the cathedral and the town is lovely and atmospheric. Its a very nice place just to relax in a cafe and take it all in.

Montblanc is a very pretty too, easy to navigate, and there are a couple of pastry shops there with fantastic pastries. They have a local sweet, an almond in a candy like crust, that is very good. If you do go there tomorrow (Saturday) and if you time it right, you could go to Valls on the way back to Tarragona and see the castellers (human towers.) This would we well worth the stop, there are four teams exhibiting. They will be on Avinguda de Sant Jaume in Valls starting at 18:30 and it goes on for a few hours.

Oops I forgot.. about Poblet, you have to go on a tour, you can't just walk around there on your own. I am not sure if you can still get in on a tour for this weekend but you could call and ask.

We love Tarragona - the forum and mercado is great to wander around a bit outside of the old town area with the cathedral.

Thanks to both of you. Rialtogirl, thanks for the tip about the casteler, I Think that it would be fun to watch with the kids ( 5 and 9) . So maybe we will make a plan that allows us to see them tomorrow.

Do we have to be There really in advance ?

Your kids will love the castellers, because there are kids IN the castells. Five year olds climbing to the top!

This exhibition is a pretty big deal so there will be a lot of people there. I hope that would not freak your kids out. If it was me I would get there at 17:30 or even a little earlier. I am sure everyone will drinking beer and vermouth and there will be a festive atmosphere. At around 18:00 all the castellers from all the teams will come into the square in processions with music.

Maybe you can show this web video to your kids - http://www.collavella.cat/
You will get to see this team, who came in second at last year's Concurs (the big competition held every two years)so there will be a lot of awe-inspiring castells being built. If I could magically transport myself anywhere right now, it would be to Valls to see this tomorrow.

If you go here: http://www.collavella.cat/actuacions/ and go down to the Festa Major de les Vivendes de la Colla Vella it will show a little map of where it is.

I love Tarragona and all the Roman stuff.
You can buy an antiquities pass that allows access to 5-6 sites.

There is a really nice Roman aqueduct that you walk across, too. No ticket required for it.

Be sure to stop in and sample some works of a fourth generation chocolatier - Sergio Roig — and his shop is L’abella on Carrer Talavera, 8, near the Placa del Forum.

Volcrew; thanks for the answer...and for the trip report !

Rialtogrl: thanks for the answer. I've just taken a look at where it Will happens ans it seem to be outsider the city. Are you familiar with that place ? I must park my car somewhere.

Lots of people should not be a problem for the kids. I guess it would also means to check my belongings because of picpovkets !
