2 days in Paris

My boyfriend and I are going to London for 4 nights and then we head to Paris for two nights. We have never been to Europe before and would like your opinion.
We will be staying at the Sully St Germain on the left bank across from Notre Dame. Need suggestions on river cruises, museums, eating out etc.
Thanks,
Molly
Molly: My wife and I were in Paris this past year and we stayed at the same hotel that you are staying at.

We are not "world travelers", but just bounce around, see the sights and get a taste of the culture(s). If you would like a copy of our trip notes, just email me and I'll send them to you.

Good luck!

My husband and I spent a weekend in Paris last year. Our hotel recommended Le Petit Bedon restaurant on 38 rue Pergolese, which is not very close to Notre Dame, but we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We ordered the "fixed menu", which gave really gave us a taste of everything. The staff was very friendly. The Louvre is huge, but you can get a map of the museum and just see the things that interest you, e.g. the Mona Lisa. My husband's favorite was the apartments of Napoleon III in the Louvre. He also liked the Conciergerie, which is near Notre Dame, which was the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. If you like Monet, you have to go to the Musee de l'Orangerie. Don't miss seeing the Eiffel Tower at night. Have fun!

Hello Molly,

I was in Paris in Oct 97 and will return this May with my husband! I can't wait!! Your 2 days in Paris will not be enough time to see everything, so you need to decide what places you want to see in those two days: are you into musuems? If so, I would recommend Museum D'Orsay (my favorite) and the Louvre. There is also a Picasso Museum. Paris also has many other sights to see: Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, the Conciergerie, walking along the Seine (a must each evening before or after dinner), checking out the outdoor markets (such as Buci market on the Left Bank), the Arch de Triomph, a walk down the Champs E'slyees (sp), and so on.

Get yourself a guidebook on Paris and read up on all the sights. Then decide what you'd like to see in your 2 days. I'd get a map and decide what you want to see so that you aren't hopping and zig zagging all around Paris.

You'll both love Paris and will definitely want to return soon!

you might try "le loup blanc" for a restaurant. it's near the pompidou centre, on the rue tiquetonne (a small street. i was in paris last march, and ate there. it has a young, all french crowd, a little chic, and popular. the prices were great ($25/person with wine at 6f/$). avoid the tourist traps of the left bank, if you want a real taste of paris. i was also given two recommendations recently from a young couple who lived in paris for a couple of years and who recently returned. their favorites were the "auberge de la reine blanche," near notre dame (excellent food, according to them), and in the 17th, bistro dix septieme (bistro 17). good luck.

Hi Molly.

I would strongly recommend switching your days. 2 in London and 4 in Paris (or 3 & 3). 2 days is such a small amount of time for Paris. I was just there in Sept. '98 and am going back in March. We spent 6 days last year and didn't see everything I had on my list.

I do realize that 2 days wouldn't be much for London either but I think for a first time, most people like spending more time in Paris. Of course, it depends on what you like. Everyone is full of opinions, including me.

Otherwise, I think your hotel is pretty good. I've never stayed there but it is in a good location.

Happy Traveling!
