Tour of Granada and Seville and seeing Andalusian horses, by car

Love any advice on visting southern Spain which I do not know at all.

We live near Denia, Alicante and for my partners birthday in late Augusst i want to drive south visiting Granada and on to Seville. She loves horses and a visit to see Andalusian horses would be great, maybe a very gentle ride too. She fell off a Spanish horse 5 years ago and broke her back, A full recovery but nervous about proper riding.

Thinking of spending 2 weeks travelling, possibly could borrow a friends small camper van with no amenities, never used me before, so may drive and stay in hotels/accomadation.

We love proper Spain and their food and wine.

Any advice really appreciated , and if you ever want help in our area happy to help.

Thanks

Oh my, your partner is a brave woman! Good luck finding the perfect birthday trip for her.

Some years ago, I went into the Poqueira Gorge to hike a bit. I didn't ride, but remember seeing a lot of information about horse riding in the area. I have no idea whether the horses are actually Andalusian or whether there are reputable riding outfits, but you might want to check it out. The area is beautiful! I stayed in Capileira. There are a lot of both hiking and riding trails in the area. If you drive there, do be careful -- the road into the gorge had a lot of switchbacks and blind curves with few (if any) guard rails and (at that time) at least one absolutely crazy bus driver. I know, because I was one of his passengers! I thought I was going to die.

Enjoy!

For the famous public display of the Andalusian horses go to Jerez de la Frontera, to the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre, http://www.realescuela.org

Since it's horse country, that city's tourism office might know about riding stables - contact
